Re: Best wind generator?

Yea, you can go ahead and ruin my post/question, but at least people with data are responding via PM with good data. You've ruined searching this forum because of all the off topic junk.

A few...

Re: Best wind generator?

BS! Ya'll think this is a joke? I'm going to be by myself a few hundred miles from land, you think I'm playing?

If you don't have a contribution, then go play somewhere else and quit wasting...

Re: Best wind generator?

I don't appreciate this lack of respect for to me, is a very serious subject. I'm going to be out in the middle of the ocean depending on a good (hopefully) product. I don't think this off-topic...

Re: Best wind generator?

The Superwind doesn't seem to be very available, but where I'm finding it, very expensive is an understatement.

Southwest is easy to find. I saw one review talking about some overheating wire...

Question Best wind generator?

I didn't have much luck searching for this topic so:

I'd like to hear from people that've owned different wind generators, which brand and model has held up the best, in the 400 to 600 watt range....

Re: 7.8 mph?

Guessing, I say that's probably about right. I did pass another, what appeared to be an Ericson (early or mid '70s) 34...under full sail, but I put my boom traverler full to windward..and went on...

Thumbs up 7.8 mph?

I finally got to sail my Irwin. The GPS reported a top speed of 7.8 mph. I did have the sails about 80% tight, but reefed on the main. I admit, I can't say what the current was doing, but it was a...

Re: Irwin - Bluewater Capable???

Look, I'm not a multi-millionair, or even close. I'll have about 40k into my boat (total) by the time I'm thru. I think that's not too bad, for going thru everything. I know every square inch of...

Re: Irwin - Bluewater Capable???

I fixed the A4 in March. Still have the OB, until I'm fully satisfied the A4 is fine. Going back to CC next week and taking it out in the Gulf. Everything should be fine, I just had to replace the...

Re: Irwin - Bluewater Capable???

On the freeboard? I'm talking about 2' above the waterline and 4 feet from the transom. That's pretty thick.

Cool Re: Irwin - Bluewater Capable???

Ok guys, I sanded my hull down to bare fiberglass and found chop over, heavy fiberglass mess. The mesh looked like you're typical place mat, and I think the chop was then blown over for extra...

No frig....and my boat is much smaller than yours. I may however, add a wind generator, but I'm not using a refrigerator.

Re: Overkill Solar?

Wet blanket? Not at all. I appreciate the effort of someone that's got practical data.

The systems you're referring to are pretty much the way everybody is doing it. "excepted practice" is...

What was the particle size capabilities of the filters you were testing? How small a particle would they would they keep out? The manufacture's engineers I talked to on the phone thought "0.5...

Re: Overkill Solar?

I was talking about the space I'm using, not the output or loads. I'm only requiring 4.5 amps at 12 volt, 54 watts for my water maker, no frig.

Re: Overkill Solar?

...and what are the amp/watt requirements for your equipment?

I am not running a frig. My water maker is modeled/modified after R/D done by the "soft water" industry. Seems they've been working...

Re: Overkill Solar?

Yes, I already have a watermaker that I'll be installing with the panels. That's specifically why I also purchased the panels. These panels in direct sun put out 4.2 amps each. The 90 psi pump for...

Question Overkill Solar?

I'm putting two 9.5' long solar panels (unisolar pvl-68) on each side of my mast on the cabin top for long distant cruising. They'll only set about 8" above the cabin roof and be strong enough to...

Re: sealing sanitary hose?

The bw tank builder (I had it made to my spec) suggested I use PVC cement on the threads. I wouldn't even consider that. Teflon or locktite is better.

...the barb? I think these guys here that...

Re: sealing sanitary hose?

Both the tank maker and the hose manufacturer recommend sealant on both sides. Not so it'll hold on, but also to keep gas and smell from leaking out. I think it's a sound idea....but what kind of...

Post sealing sanitary hose?

I've been told by venders to glue sanitary hose with pvc cement, both sides...thread and barb. You'd never be able to do anything but cut it out if you use that, especially on the pumps and Ys. I'm...
