Just heard about your engine issues. Sorry to hear it. If it is any consolation, you made it further than us when we finally cut the lines to go cruising. We were not even to Galveston when our...

We used the Rustoleum florescent because that was the only thing Home Depot had. After 8 months anchoring about 50% of the time it still looks good. I was hoping to get a year out of it, but looks...

Re: Help with anchoring for storms.

Most of the anchorages in the Keys we have used have two features:

1) Terrible holding - limestone, or a thin layer of sand over limestone
2) Powerful currents that reverse with the tides

Re: is there a major difference in foot length of boats?

Either of those boats will cross an ocean no worries. A bigger boat will be more comfortable, carry more gear, and be faster. For example a Cheoy Lee 30 carries about 35 gallons of water. Crossing an...

Re: hatch repair

I think most people will find it hard to picture the part you are trying to repair. Can you post a picture? Is this a sliding hatch? is the core saturated, or is it still dry?

Re: Crealock-34 head

We have looked closely at almost every head made. The Grocco K is the only one we could find that fit the 34 with no modification. The Compact PHII fits with minor modification, but not nearly as...

Re: Calling all crapper experts

For sure heat up the hose before fitting. It is a nightmare otherwise. Either the heat gun, or dip in boiling water. I have replaced all my hoses 3 times. It is always a nightmare, but once I learned...

Re: Got the air bleed blues

FWIW - last time I bled my injectors, I had to try three times to get it to work. Even if it does not work at first, it might still be worth trying. As Al points out, for sure make sure you turn off...

Re: composting toilet-should we do it

No reason the must, yet they do.

No gurantee, yet they don't.

Could not disagree with this more. Stinking is completely the deciding factor. I spent 3 years, several thousand dollars,...

Re: Anybody have an engine monkey I could use?

My rudder posts leaks. I have hired three pros to crawl back there and fix it, all three come to the boat, then declined to do the work. One of our fine forum members did it for me. The long-term...

Re: composting toilet-should we do it

We switched to a composting head after 3 years, 100+ hours, and $3000+ dollars of trying to eliminate odors from our conventional holding tank system. We finally gave up. Our tank is only 18 gallons....

Re: Rope Clutch With Lever Pointing Forward

I am hoping we can get away with just sanding and painting once more before we have to strip it. We did not get an estimate for the more complex bottom job.

Re: Cabin speakers?

I am using a pair of Polk T15 and they are prefect. They are $100/pair currently at Best Buy, but where only $50/pair just before Christmas. Not sure if that is a regular thing or not.

Re: Best U.S. city for sailing, living aboard, working

I got too curious and had to get nerdy about this.

I pulled a list of the 100 largest metro areas on the US. This is basically every metro area of 1/2 million or more.

I threw out any metro...

Re: Flush Mount Ventilators

I just replaced my dorades with Nicro Day Night Plus solar vents. They run all the time and move a lot of air. They can be shut off, and switched from intake to exhaust easily. Ideally you have two,...
