Too bad the BOOT KEY HARBOR web cam is still down, as we were looking forward to watching Gary's performance at the TIKI HUT Saturday.

Re: Just Go!

Hello Gary, good to hear that you are back in the Keys. We have finally moved aboard and are headed down to Marathon at this time. May not make it in time to meet you this year, as we are still on...

Wow, just saw a quart of Coleman Kerosene at Wal Mart for $5.68. Hope that is not a trend.

Chucking my propane stove, what to replace it with

We are now permanent cruisers and use a Taylor's kerosene 030 with oven with kerosene or Klean Heat. Fuel always available, safe and not too pricy.

No propane allowed below decks but we do use...

Re: Mermaid A/C Issue

Today was a pretty good day, hot in the boat but apparently productive. Went in the water and cleaned the A/C inlet, which was not too bad. It is one of those with slots, not just a hole so it took...

Re: Mermaid A/C Issue

Pictures of the small, silver, breaker type item, 2 X 2 1/2 X 1" tall are not possible without some disassembly. It is reset by feel and is well hidden, and hardly visible due to space restrictions....

Mermaid A/C Issue

We have a 12000 btu Mermaid with A/C and strip heat. It has always worked fine, at least until today. It has a March Pump which is pumping very strong. The intake strainer is clean as is the air...

Re: What is the best Sailing book you have read?

"The Ship and the Storm" by Jim Carrier. Best book I ever opened, sailing or otherwise. Would love to meet Jim as I understand he hangs around the Gulf Coast. About the loss of the sailing ship...

Re: Wife won't retire with me....

There is usually a song which relates to most any situation or person. Eileen Quinn's, "Don't Ask Your Love To Choose", seems to fit this one best.

"You the man", you got it right! Very Wise!

Re: Radar reflector questions

Always have one up while cruising, too much barge traffic along the Gulf Coast to be without one. Were we to go south from here, down below Belize or so, we would not run one at all. Pirates too...

Re: 3 GM 30 Yanmar, White Powder

Thanks jsaronson, tried the bubble test which was negative.

gamayun, you are probably right, and that would be a good thing. Did not want to remove the plate until I determined what was behind...

Re: 3 GM 30 Yanmar, White Powder

Great idea, will try it in the morning. There could be a gasket but if so it is not visible.

It seems that if the exchanger was compromised the water level in the reserve tank / overflow, would...

3 GM 30 Yanmar, White Powder

We have a 3 GM 30 Yanmar in our boat. The engine looks and runs like new, but is about 10 or so years old and has been properly maintained since new.

The other day I climbed into the lazarette to...

Re: destin, FL area marinas for 50 foot mast?

Destin, like so many other places in FL, has changed much over the years. Been going down for many years and remember when J Villa was the only motel in town. Still beautiful at Crab Island but way...

Sad to say I will be off the air for an extended period after 5-10-13.. No problems and my experience here has been near perfect. While I realize that this is just the Internet, the players are...

Re: 700% increase in Insurance!

We survived "Katrina" in the Oak Harbor Marina, with only cosmetic damage and no water in the interior. We provided Allstate with photos before and after, showing how we prepared and the result. 40...

Re: 700% increase in Insurance!

Hi there Joe. We have a similar problem with Allstate, and Boat US is even higher. Last year the policy more than doubled. As a result we cut the coverage in half and retained liability in order...

Re: Real life playing out one of my ideas.

May be much more to this than we will ever know. I know a few people who have messed up in the drug area and still have their children. I, for one, do not trust this government at all and would not...

Re: Boat Insurance Rate Increase

I have come to the conclusion that there is really no such thing as true insurance. You pay for years and years and then one day make a claim, and as a result the policy goes up for the same...

We have been to the Sombrero Marina for lunch and drinks a few times. We were down by car a few years ago and were impressed. We will stay there in the near future for an extended visit if we can...
