Jabsco 3270 Leak Perkins 4-107

There is a steady drip from the raw water pump on my 4-107. It seems to be coming from behind the body, in the shaft area. I suspect the shaft seal or the bearing seal. Has anyone repaired this...

Re: florida to NY

Wind, I found good crew here, you can too. I posted my own qualifications too. From about twenty applicants I picked three finalists, three more on standby. We brought my ketch from Fl-NY in May '09.

Re: Overpropped; What to do?

My boat is also overpropped. I was going to change back to the two blade that came stored onboard. I did wonder why the original owner changed it though. I learned why, motoring into a steep chop....

Re: Crew

Try posting in the "Crew wanted" section lower down. Post your own qualifications, the boat's equipment, and whether the crew will be asked to contribute to supplies. Some owners will pay for...

Re: Frozen Sail Slide

I like Kroil, but with any penetrating oil, time is your friend. Reapply and wait. Bronze, aluminum, and salt are a bad mix, good luck.

Re: Hurricane Sandy: How did you do?

Broken mizzen boom, broken boom gallows. A few other dents. Home undamaged.

Re: Halloween Hurricane

Power back tonight, seven days out. House seems warm, bright, noisy. Home and family fared well, boat took a beating, but still floats. She will be repaired. Hopes and prayers for those that lost...

Re: Will Hurricane Sandy Affect You?

Power is off here. Internet and phone come and go. Best wishes to all. I'll report back in a couple of days.

Re: Halloween Hurricane

For a slight change of direction, I just went down to look at LI Sound. I've never seen it so ugly.

Re: Will Hurricane Sandy Affect You?

Storm surge is probably the biggest threat here. I'm in that 6-11' area. But all sails are stowed below, decks cleared, pendant tripled.
Prepare your boats, but by all means protect your life. You...

You are more likely to find traditional sailmaking on the Woodenboat Forum. Good luck.

Re: extending the season a bit

I use my boat every winter. I winterize the fresh water system and head when temps drop consistently below freezing. The engine not until water temps are in the low thirties and the air is below...

Re: Zeeschouw

Way cool. I have no experience with the type, but every boat I've owned was designed before 1962, a couple before 1914. I suggest patience in learning her handling. Don't try to make her something...

Re: Curiosity About These "Crew Wanted" Posts

Certainly if they have any doubt they should call the skipper. And I have been awakened. But going up and down the US coast one may see several contacts every watch. The skipper needs to sleep...

Re: Ketch vs Sloop?

Randy, I'm not sure what your friend did. I also adjust the mizzen for balance. I think as long as it is drawing it adds speed. Certainly she is slower without it, and under certain conditions she...

Re: Stolen Dinghy Located

Thank you all for the kind words and support.
To answer some questions: Yes, it was Mt Sinai. The boat was first seen anchored over the west jetty, later persued to the sand spit parking off Crystal...

Re: Stolen Dinghy Located

Calling the cops was a possibility, and I told the guy so. But it was far from a guarantee of satisfaction. It's true that if you find something of value, you must turn it in to police. Knowingly...

Stolen Dinghy Located

About four years ago, my dinghy was stolen from the beach. Saturday I saw it again. We were sailing out of the harbor, there was a man fishing from a rowboat. At first I thought it was pretty cool...

Re: Opening port seal replacement

My bronze Perkos had the same problem. Defender carries the Perko gaskets, which are t-section, and fit into a square section groove.

Re: solar hot water

I haven't, but I've thought about it. Because I have four separate water tanks, I've thought of insulating one, and using a solar pump and vacuum tubes to make it a hot water tank. Haven't even...

Re: Sailing into the slip

That's really cool David. I used to sail my Pennant into the slip, but she was very handy and only weighed one ton, not too hard to stop.
