Re: Best boat for up the Potomac?

Yeah, the O'day seems pretty good (along with the o'day 23 and Morgan 22 etc). So far the Morgan 22 seems to be the best, but its not like id pass up the others. Oh, I can't pm you yet Yado , so I...

Re: Best boat for up the Potomac?

Yeah, people keep mentioning just launching and I would love to save the money, but I don't have a vehicle that could launch a boat.

Re: Best boat for up the Potomac?

Oh I definitely plan on doing just that. The only way I'd buy a boat soon is if a great deal came up. Since I don't even know what a great deal is haha I doubt it will be this season.

Re: Best boat for up the Potomac?

That is a little out of my price range honestly... my budget, realistically, is $3000 or less. My wife isn't exactly pumped to drop a bunch of money on a boat even though we could easily afford a...

Re: Best boat for up the Potomac?

I doubt I will be near the mouth of the Potomac anytime soon. It would be a long haul. I also wouldn't sail above the WW bridge. I mean the marina is right there, but I would be sailing down a...

Re: Best boat for up the Potomac?

Exactly. And really, after researching I figured I was looking for a shoal/centerboard boat, but since research can only give you so much insight I thought I'd pose the question.

That Morgan 22...

Re: Best boat for up the Potomac?

I'd rent a slip. I'm looking in the range of 22-25. I'm willing to go 26, but it would be nice to remain in the cheapest per ft bracket (which is anything up to and including 25') at the local...

Re: Best boat for up the Potomac?

I really want to stay away from the weighted swinging parts containing all the ballast. A shoal keel/centerboard seems like such a better option.

Oh and yes I would mostly daysail, but there would...

Re: Best boat for up the Potomac?

Yeah. I know the difference (read up on it today lol) I wasn't sure what you meant because you mentioned both. But the Morgan 22 is very similar to what I need. A little bigger isn't bad, but I don't...

Re: Best boat for up the Potomac?

That does sound nice. And the Morgan 22 isn't a swing keel it is what I mentioned... a keel/centerboard. Swing keels have the ballast in the swinging part (which to me seems scary). Thanks for the...

Best boat for up the Potomac?

I went out for the first time the other day with Rich (BubbleheadMd) and had a blast. Now I am planning to sign up for a class at the belle haven marina in Alexandria. I am keeping my eyes open for a...

Re: I've never sailed in my life... talk me into it.

Haha and the worst part is I had sunscreen right in my car! This alway happens in the beginning of summer. Later in summer I don't burn, but early I burn like there is no tomorrow. It was worth it.

Re: I've never sailed in my life... talk me into it.

Well, I no longer need to be talked into it... I went out today with BubbleheadMd (thanks again Rich!) I am sunburned as crap, but I left wanting to sail that much more and all we did was talk....

Re: I've never sailed in my life... talk me into it.

This helps. I don't need the boat to be a house. Just like when I go camping I bring only a tent and minimal supplies (I wouldn't even bring the tent if it weren't for the Mrs.) I have been looking...

Re: I've never sailed in my life... talk me into it.

The "talk me into it part was more of a , point out what is great about sailing. I am absolutely not hesitant. That is actually a flaw. I'm not hesitant enough honestly. I am the kind of stubborn...
