Black Marlin can swim at speeds up to 80 mph. Speed has been measured by how fast they strip line from a fishing reel. Swordfish are slower, but still fast.

Apparently swordfish secrete oil from...

Re: Hull cleaning in the water

Are we bored already? It's only November!

For the OP: Try 1000 grit wet or dry sandpaper. Just don't overdo it or make it a regular habit. Then rub and polish at haulout.
OK, I'll brace myself...

Re: Sailmaker for unusual sails, SF bay area

I chartered a Fuji 35 about 20 years ago that had a mule on a roller furler. I remember two things about using the sail: 1. The lead angle of the furling line was not the best. 2. I could not get the...

Re: Fairing The Keel

Well, if the gap continued to get worse even after torquing the keel bolts and a season of sailing I would certainly take a deeper look. The gap has not increased (it is just a hairline crack) and I...

Re: Fairing The Keel

I torque SS keel bolts (80 foot pounds) each spring before launch. They were not loose last spring.

Haulout 10/19/2016
A few wrinkles under VC-17 at haulout. Need to remove more silicone.
Any additional filling needed will be done with 4200.
No additional hull/keel separation. :grin

Rebedding Toe Rail

When I bought my 1977 24 the surveyor suggested that I tighten the hull to deck joint screws. He also suggested rebedding deck hardware every two years. I rebedded stanchion bases in 2015. I think...

Riblets

Shark skin is covered with microscopic patterns called dentricles, which help reduce drag and keep microorganisms from hitching free rides. NASA scientists copied the patterns to create drag-reducing...

Re: Low profile electric bilge pumps.

I want a self contained pump. The float switch is in the same housing as the pump.

Thanks bristolbob. Perhaps I'll try the Rule pending other recommendations.

Re: Am I Crazy for Considering a Hinckley Pilot Sloop two?

And my best sleep on a sailboat was in a pilot berth. Although not a Hinckley, a Chris Craft Apache 37. If I had the money to support her I'd own a Pilot 35.

Re: Do you like big or small boats best?

I cut my teeth on small boats and really learned to sail (and race) my dad's 16' Rebel. 24 feet is all I want to take care of at my age, especially keeping the hull as smooth as glass above and below...

Re: Snapped my mast in half on Saturday, Anybody have mast breaking stories?
