Re: Hurricane is a comin, now what???

Oh I forgot to mention, I didn't see less than 5'6" coming in from the South, and I left through the North and didn't see less than 5'9" until passing the canals, which got to 5'4" (rocks!) for a...

Re: Hurricane is a comin, now what???

Hey everyone. First off, Serenity is safe and sound. I sailed her back to her slip, none worse for the wear but for an American flag that gave its all and will be properly disposed of.

Second,...

Re: Hurricane is a comin, now what???

Ran it past the dockmaster and a park officer, they were OK with it while I was on the mooring. One anchor on a very slack line, as a backup if the mooring failed. When I got back there today she...

Re: Who went Sailing on Saturday? "Pictures"

Saturday I sailed Serenity to her hurricane hole for the first time. I swear I was sick to my stomach as we motored out of view of her in the dingy. Fortunately we went back to her this afternoon,...

Re: Hurricane is a comin, now what???

Oh and I'm not in the hole yet, I'm driving cross country to get home, I'll be moving her Saturday (5 foot seas, 20 kt winds!)

Should be fun!

Re: Hurricane is a comin, now what???

The Coronado was indeed designed to be the "largest trailerable sailboat" at the time of it's design, but I don't have a trailer, nor the time/means to get one in time.

Re: Hurricane is a comin, now what???

I actually don't mind about the dockage agreement. The canal that my slip is in faces the ocean, and I'm in the first slip at the end of the canal. I'll feel much safer with Serenity out of the...

Re: Hurricane is a comin, now what???

Sentiment is appreciated Captain Gary, but once she's safely moored I won't be anywhere near the water, I'll be back home putting up shutters!

Re: Hurricane is a comin, now what???

Me too! I feel much better now. I'm going to drop a couple of extra anchors in the water, just to be safe.

Re: Hurricane is a comin, now what???

For anyone who is curious, the maximum draft to come in from the South is 4'3", and the charge is about $20 daily.

Re: Hurricane is a comin, now what???

Ah hah!!!

John Pennekamp has a small mooring field, and took my reservation despite the oncoming hurricane. I was honest with them and told them they were my hurricane hole. Their only caveat is...

I love the idea, but it's too far. Know any moorings further North?

Exclamation Hurricane is a comin, now what???

OK. I'm currently on my way down to my Coronado 25 in Key Largo, FL from NJ, trying to outrun the weather.

My current dockage agreement basically kicks me out if there is a hurricane watch or...

Re: Fenders for a boat

Re: Replacing Lifelines

I think I mostly need to replace just the rope (wire actually), as most of the fittings seem to be in surprisingly good shape. I'm guessing I would need a special tool or something though...

Replacing Lifelines

Hello all.

Serenity's lifelines look to be in poor shape, and I want to replace them soon.

I have heard they can be very expensive. Is this something I can safely consider a DIY, or should I...

Re: State Sen. Kehoe drops anti fouling paint bill

I do understand, however I should have mentioned hard paints as well.

My point being, the product is designed to leach copper, so doubting that it contributes to an increased amount of copper in...

Re: State Sen. Kehoe drops anti fouling paint bill

Well, now...

I'm on the boater's side on this, but let's be realistic. You're talking about ablative copper based paint. Paint based on copper that is designed to come off...
