Re: Dinghy Transom Flaps

I did search, but for some reason, I completely missed that site the first time through! Thanks - that should be just what I need.

Re: Dinghy Transom Flaps

Now that picture looks like exactly what I want my transom to look like! They look like commercial parts, but again, I can't seem to find any site that sells them.

Any idea what kind of bat...

Re: Dinghy Transom Flaps

Yep, I've got a self-bailer in the bottom, and may install a second so I can use them on either tack. The bailers are great for draining small amounts out, but they are comparatively slow for...

Dinghy Transom Flaps

Wondering if anyone has either a retail source, or a great design write-up for dinghy transom flaps? I've been searching all over, and not finding much. There are sources for plastic, but I'm...

Re: Gauges for Yanmar YSB-8?

Yes - I do feel better! You put me on the right track, but I still had to check it out. The thing that's making me nervous now is that I read a post somewhere indicating something about metric...

Re: Gauges for Yanmar YSB-8?

Just did some further research, and according to the Yanmar parts catalog, the oil pressure and engine temp senders are both switches, so they will not drive a gauge. This means I need to replace...

Re: Gauges for Yanmar YSB-8?

Did your boat originally have just dummy lights, which you converted to gauges without replacing sensors? Or did you have to replace the sensors?

I do like the look of those gauges - very nice!

Gauges for Yanmar YSB-8?

I have a Yanmar YSB-8 engine on my 1977 CS27, which thankfully runs like a top. The engine panel, however, is in rough shape and due for a make-over.

As I understand it, the engine system has...

Thumbs up Re: Tack reefing: Cunningham vs 2 lines

Great! So it sounds like the Cunningham hook can serve many purposes, and save me installing a second line for a #2 reef tack. That's great news - one of those rare moments when the best path is...

Tack reefing: Cunningham vs 2 lines

I'm optimizing my boat's (1977 CS27) reefing system. The boat is rigged with a 2-line system with jam cleats on boom and mast. There is no reefing led back to cockpit, so I have to go on deck,...

Re: Wheel to tiller conversion - new throttle

Ahh, NOW I know what box you're talking about! And thanks for reading my blog - always catches me off-guard when I hear someone actually reads it! I know no manufacturers potted the decks back then...

Re: Wheel to tiller conversion - new throttle

Hooo-eeee! I had no idea these things were going to be that expensive. My Edson throttle controls weren't that much, and I thought everything Edson made was priced like diamonds. Definitely going...

Re: Wheel to tiller conversion - new throttle

I don't have a fiberglass box anywhere - not sure how to answer that one...

Wheel to tiller conversion - new throttle

I'm planning a conversion from wheel back to tiller on my 1977 CS27. The wheel and pedestal just take up too much space, and the conversion is relatively simple on my boat. The part I'm not yet...

Re: Tacking Asymmetric Spin

One of my light air problems is completely toasted sails... I believe they are original 1977, and generate all the lift of tissue paper. Budget constrains me to a new main this winter, and a new...

Re: Tacking Asymmetric Spin

I was under the impression that since my spin halyard is forward of the forestay I have no choice but to do an outside tack/jybe. If I go inside I think I'm creating a nasty chafe point...

Tacking Asymmetric Spin

Has anyone successfully come up with a strategy for tacking (NOT jibing) an asymmetric spinnaker forward of fore stay? I don't have a symmetric spinnaker, and this was the only sail in my inventory...

Re: Gennaker downhaul on CS27

Wow - I love the custom mini-sprit! With a trip to a welder and some woodworking I coudl definitely do something like that in the future. For now I think I need to keep it a bit simpler, but I...

Re: Gennaker downhaul on CS27

Yes, the yard crew that stepped my mast got a little creative on me. My bad for not being a more active supervisor in the process. That's #1 on my list toward resolving this issue.

Re: Gennaker downhaul on CS27

Faster, that's exactly what I wanted to do in the first place, but I couldn't quite find the right hardware - was hoping someone else knew of something that would work. I've seen the clamshell...

Re: Epoxy clean up

You don't want the heat on plexi - it will distort/bend. Only option there would be a very slow and careful scraping with a razor blade, and then perhaps one of those headlight polishing kits to...

Re: Gennaker downhaul on CS27

Sounds like a plan. I think I'm going to try putting a pin through the holes in the furler tangs so I can have an even distribution of load on both sides, and then run a pennant off of that with a...

Re: Gennaker downhaul on CS27

I definitely mean a tack strap to adjust the height of the tack - not really a downhaul. Sorry for the confusion. I was concerned that I might mess with the mast rake if I moved the furler back to...

Gennaker downhaul on CS27

I'm looking for creative ideas to attach the downhaul of a gennaker in front of my furler (see image below). I plan to use a ATN tacker above the pulpit and need a downhaul. My goal is to attach a...
