Re: Soft hanks with roller furler

Oh I understand what you're saying. That would be a good idea.

I guess my question is confusing because I would get the old hank on sails converted to luff tape no question. But I was just...

Re: Soft hanks with roller furler

So is this something that is doable or would it be too much for the foil and warp/bend it?

It seems to me, it wouldn't be a problem but I don't have a RF or am an expert of them. I just think the...

Re: Soft hanks with roller furler

Yea, that's a good point, I think they would be close enough to all share similar loads. I think you could get soft shackles within 1/4" of each other. Can't be any less variation in the sewn in...

Re: Soft hanks with roller furler

See Paul's post below. I just mean if I take the RF sail off and it's just a foil, can I use soft hanks to secure an older hank sail to the foil with the soft shackles/hanks. Or would that damage...

Re: Soft hanks with roller furler

Well I figured that, honestly I was purely curious. Ultimately, if I were to get a furler I'd have the old hank sails fixed with luff tape unless it was more than it was worth. I have seen videos of...

Soft hanks with roller furler

Hey guys,

Just wondering if it was possible to use soft shackles/hanks with a roller furler. I have hank on head sails at the moment with bronze hanks. If I were to install a roller furler to my...

Re: Just Go!

I plan to go in steps.. As of right now I refit everything below the waterline and painted the hull since it was hauled. I replaced all mast lights and wind tools since it was down from being...

Re: Greatest fear?

My boat sinking while I'm at work offshore while I haven't had time to get insurance.. Wouldn't be anything for me to do.

Re: Coastal cruising equipment and accessories

I'm going on a limb not knowing what you have, but safety items should be first. Inflatable life jackets (because they are more comfortable), harness(if not built into the pfd), tethers, jacklines of...

Re: Trolling

That's so true, if you can catch one, you can catch them all.. It's like they want a piece of whatever the hooked one has!

Re: Trolling

We fish the sargasso grass patches for Mahi and chicken dolphin swimming underneath. They do like to creep in the shadows or under the grass.

Re: Trolling

Just to be certain, I hope no one is catching bluefin tuna.. They are on the endangered list and are getting rarer every year. Yellowing, blackfin, big eye tuna sure but if you hook a blue fin let it...

Re: Red over Green mount

I used 2 180* lights for each.. I was going to so 360* lights but I didn't want to build the pole on top of my already tall mast.

Re: Should Medsailor proactively rebuild his transmission?

I would get a new clock. Save the old one or log the hours. You know it went 1400,now the new clock starts the time since rebuild.. It doesn't need to be more complicated, most of the things that are...

Re: Should Medsailor proactively rebuild his transmission?

You can probably buy a new gear for 2k...my ZF 150 v drive was 2.5k.. Straight gears are typically less for similar size.

Re: synthetic rigging

Thanks for the information John,

I was curious what you mean by "big boats". I have a 47' with 7/16" and 1/2" ss wire. I tried looking for a size table on your website a few weeks ago and...

Re: synthetic rigging

I have, and I could make them, but I have brass hanks now on my 4 headsails and I don't want to pay to have them all changed to something to accommodate soft shackles. And I'd don't want to put the...

Re: synthetic rigging

I was looking at stemball fittings as my Isomat spar has them. If I remember correctly, sta-loc makes them but they weren't cheap by any means. I'm probably going to rerig next year, and I'm looking...

Re: Question regarding Rocna Anchor's Roll Bar

I think what barefoot is trying to say, and if he is I think I agree on it, is that the old tradition of going up a size on the anchor doesn't apply to the new generation anchors. For instance, my...

Re: Should Medsailor proactively rebuild his transmission?

Get an oil sample test, that will tell more than a inspection. But like others say if it's accessible, leave it as is, you can always pull it later. They aren't big gears and can just about be single...
