Re: Navionics for BVIs with iPad 3G Question
Thanks everyone - Melissa, we'll be getting there on 5/18, so will miss you, but perhaps people will still be talking about the 4 crazy women well after your trip ;-)

Navionics for BVIs with iPad 3G Question
Greetings:
I know there have been numerous and recent threads on the topic of iStuff navigation, GPS chips, etc., so apologies if this info is available somewhere (I couldn't find it).

Re: Sulfur Odor from Battery Bank
Inspected the batteries yesterday and there is nothing notable to report. Water levels are essentially unchanged and there is no sign of leakage of either water or acid. Everything 'looked' totally...

Re: Sulfur Odor from Battery Bank
Not meaning for 'to the brim' to be taken literally, but I did top them off to make sure the batteries had plenty of water prior to shoving off.
I'm heading up to the boat later today to look into...

Re: Sulfur Odor from Battery Bank
Thanks Sea Dawg. Informative link as well.
Second Wind, I filled each of the house batteries to the brim prior to departure but will check to see if they possibly could have evaporated. Still...

Sulfur Odor from Battery Bank
Did an overnight anchor-out at China Camp in SF Bay last weekend - noticed a rather pungent sulfuric odor once we got back to our marina in Sausalito. My knowledgeable berth-neighbor informed me that...

Removing Rub Rail Marks from Topsides
Congrats on your 100th post!
That may be sponge indeed. The one to which I referred is available at West Marine apparently, but is likely the same thing just pricier since it's 'marine grade'

Re: Removing Rub Rail Marks from Topsides
Hi - I actually went with Acetone (my slip neighbor's technique) and it works great - comes off in seconds and doesn't mess with the awl grip. I keep it in my dock box with a glove and rags and get...

Re: Gale Sail or just reef the jib in strong winds? (SF Bay)
We were out in the Bay this Spring in solid 30kt winds with gusts in low-mid 40s heading across the slot. I had 2 reefs in the main and the full 100% jib and we were doing fine and were balanced,...

Pump-out troubleshooting
Our marina has individual pump out hookups at the slips which is a nice touch. I successfully pumped-out our holding tank about 2 months ago, everything went according to plan.
I attempted a...

Len, Good to know - I usually prefer uninteresting things happening to my internals.
Will certainly test the solvent out on an inconspicuous spot first.

Great suggestion re: MEK. Will definitely check it out. The rub rail marks are from the edges and (mostly) corner of the slip, not sure if same material as cowl vents/vinyl etc but...

Removing Rub Rail Marks from Topsides
Whew! pretty awesome day yesterday on SF Bay - solid 25 knots gusting 35+. 'Favorable' conditions for getting to know our new-to-us Tartan 4100. Handled great, docking was slightly less great.

Re: Odd Boat Names
"High Boativation" should definitely fall into that category of odd (yet sorta typical) boat names, though when spoken, may just sound like the speaker is a little congested....;-)

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. Lowes, Ikea, Kohls, HD are all in the SF area so I'll swing in and see what they've got. Definitely want synthetic, and nice to know they can be cleaned...

Small, cheap persian rugs/runners for down below...
Having an oddly hard time finding 2x3, 2x4, etc. rugs of decent quality to 'warmify' our cabin, yet I see them outfitted on so many boats. Any places where these are readily available?

Re: Sump Pump Issue
Thanks - boat is at a slip under shore power, so there shouldn't be any power issues. Figured there'd be no harm leaving it on, unless float switch got stuck somehow and burned out the pump....
