Re: Long 2 or short 4 outboard? V21

I should add - I only have the short 4. The long 2 went with the 17 when I sold it.

Re: Long 2 or short 4 outboard? V21

So what was the short shaft like on the 21? I still haven't received my paperwork from the state so I don't know what my own boat will do. On a calm lake will it be okay? On a choppy bay will the...

Re: Bit by bigger boat bug - strip the old boat or refit new one?

I should have added that whatever I sell the old boat and Honda BF2 for should pretty much cover a 6-8HP long shaft for the new boat, and whatever is needed to get the new boat equipped for sailing....

Bit by bigger boat bug - strip the old boat or refit new one?

I found a Venture 21 in good shape and bought it to replace my Venture 17. It still fits in my garage too! If my V17 has 100,000 miles on it, this 21 has 10,000 miles. It looks like someone...

Re: Long 2 or short 4 outboard? V21

That's what I didnt want to hear. :) The 4 is a little underpowered for the crab boat. I should sell both and get a pair of sixes!

Long 2 or short 4 outboard? V21

Bought a V21. My V17 came with a short 4 which was more than adequate but in chop the prop would come out of the water sometimes. I got a long shaft Honda 2 which I love. Just perfect for the...

Re: How did you get the money for your first sailboat?

I rolled some spare change. I own my boat. It's not the other way around.

I was dumb when I got out of college. Credit card debt, loans for stupid stuff and I gave away a perfectly good...

Re: Looking For Very Tiny Pocket Cruiser - help?

I may be biased, but if finances are tight, a Venture 17 will set you back about $1/lb. of displacement. Listed at 800 lbs. I love mine. You backpack? A V17 has enough cabin to give you storage...

Re: Heavy winds?

My question about the anemometer - mine is three little cups on short plastic arms, all of which rotate about an axle. When the wind is making the whole mess rotate, it's more or less "filling" one...

Re: Venture 17 restoration

Sailing season is effectively over here in PA. Boat-dreaming-season in full swing! Anyone have a dodger on their V17? I 've been dreaming of building a small hard dodger for wet or cold days. ...

Re: Heavy winds?

Alright, would my little home weather station (or your mast top anemometer) read higher wind speeds on a colder day? But a little dandelion poof blowing in that same wind would be going the same 12...

Re: Help me decide on a name

Wife thought my white-decked, yellow-hulled Venture 17 looked like a cooked egg and suggested "sunny side up" which means she's turned turtle and it sounds silly. "Over Easy" sounds like a boat...

Re: Navionics chart plotter / GPS app for Droid phone, plus Chesapeake Smart Buoys

Original poster here - Since the first post in 2010 I've "drank the Kool-Ade" and got an iPhone 4 (non S). The neat thing is the Navionics app still works fine on the Droid with no cell service. I...

Re: Please recommend sailboat museums NE US

I second the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum - includes workboats and oyster dredges (done under sail!) Also a bit out of your way, but the Halifax Nova Scotia museum was excellent.

A museum...

Re: Best power tools?

Shop teacher here, if that adds any credibility. In my experience Porter Cable, Milwaukee, and Bosch hold up to 5 hours a day every day abuse by teenagers. Tried Grizzly stuff one year ($10 drills?...

Venture 17 restoration

Turkey baster bulb sounds great. Mine came with a big rubber "cork" with a groove cut in it for the cable. It's heavy enough that it doesn't blow out of the cockpit when towing.

Have fun! I...

Re: CBMM boat auction - I bought the cheapest boat there - what is it?

That was a slow moving auction. I left halfway through the in-water stuff. Wife liked the lobster launch and the aluminum hulled Marinette. Did you stay long enough to see what the Hunter 25 (in...

CBMM boat auction - I bought the cheapest boat there - what is it?

No, it wasn't the wooden Lightning with trailer that brought $350...

I got a 30" long salesman's sample model of a "Flotilla 45" which apparently was never built in 1:1 scale. Looks to be 60's...

2012 Fall Annapolis Boat Show

There definitely has been a dinghy dock at the show for the last 4 years. Gray inflatables with 4 horse Yamahas piled 3 deep. Take your pick!

Watched a couple ram their way through - looked...

Thinking of changing crab on 3.5 Johnson

Consider posting this on one of the small engine forums. I know some manufacturers don't make their own small outboards but use imports painted and badged as their own. An engine guru (or some...
