Re: 2016 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

A nice sailing day in July!

And we might have snagged the last one for at least the next 5 days, from the look of the forecast: 90s and up for that period at least.

But yesterday (Wednesday the...

Re: Cockpit won't drain

You might want to post a good picture of the scupper to give us a better idea of the grate on it.

Re: Yanmar 2GMF Fuel Mystery

It could be leaking air at the bleed screw on top of the secondary filter. That little plastic washer is not all that robust and neither are the aluminum threads that the steel screw relies on.

Re: Joker valve replacement gone bad

There's always fluid waiting to push out of that joint--how much depends on how long a run of 1 1/2" hose you've got above the joker. In my experience, pumping doesn't clear the waste hose out, but...

Re: Pearson 303 Interior Wood Finish

The teak and teak veneer in my last boat, an 87 Pearson 28, appeared to have been stained and varnished. I refinished some pieces to pretty close to original by stripping them (using a citrus type...

Re: Oops...I think I stripped some gelcoat

Are you saying it took off the barrier coat--which is paint-- or the actual gelcoat?

Re: Structural Assesment

My thought, along with all the others. Oh, and nobody describes "softly" as "you know, like when a keel boat falls off its stands". Free would be too expensive.

Re: 2016 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

We've been in the water since April 7, but I didn't have a chance to get the headsail on the furler until this past Monday, which was a perfect day for that job--no wind--but not so good for sailing....

Re: leaking fuel tank replacement

Hopefully someone can answer the hull strength issue. I'll just say that no way would I feel good using a bladder for fuel. You'd have to be fanatical about eliminating any possible chafing.

Why...

Re: Cheapeake Bay, Knapps Narrows, Tilghman Island

We draw 5.5 feet and up until last year I'd go through only with 2 hours of high tide. Even while hugging the marks, we'd sometimes see only a foot under the keel in the thin spots. Didn't take a...

Re: How to repair rotting core surrounding chainplates

I had your situation on my previous boat, which had a balsa core. Absolutely no sponginess in the deck but I knew both chainplates had leaked and were suspect. I dug out the rotted stuff with a coat...

Re: How important are looks?

Not a bad looking boat at all. Is the cabin sides and cockpit gelcoat shiny? If not, a good compound, polish, and wax would be a cheap cosmetic plus to go with polishing the rusty stainless. Interior...

Re: Baltimore/Havre De Grace/ DIY Marina. Travel from Hershey

Are you talking about wanting to swim at whatever marina you choose? I'm not sure any would let you do that, and I know I wouldn't want to.

Please don't start pouting, jimhood. It's not personal and it's not territorial. It's just experience, and the fact that reviews mean more when they come from someone with some history. If a stranger...

Re: Question on supply line connector to panel

Appreciate the responses, all. OK, I'll put blue Loctite on the set screw and call it good. The wire is tinned and the end is bright so the basic connection should be fine. My 2000 Bene has a copper...

Question Question on supply line connector to panel

The main supply positive connects to a big fuse holder on my Beneteau's panel as a stripped end jammed into a set screw sort of holder--sorry, no picture.

My question: Should the stripped end of...

Re: Jupiter, Venus, Mars AM conjunction, bright and close!

I happened to be anchored off the Wye River on the Chesapeake Sunday night. I woke up around 3 or 3:30 am, went up top to take a look around, and saw that stunning sight to the east! Venus was so...

Re: Battery conversion

I believe any 12 battery with enough capacity, as those both seem to be, will do the job. Of course the physical connections need to be negotiated. If it were me, I'd be suspicious of that $30 price...

Re: ran over a dock line, now motor wont start

I like Capt Len's suggestion, since for now I would assume the starting problem is a result of the sudden stop and the engine momentarily trying to screw itself off its mounts.
