Re: Ranger 20 replacement spreaders

I used to sail (and sell) Rangers. Nothing special about the stock tubular aluminum spreaders, but if your boat has the optional airfoil ones, you might need to do some searching. I would talk to...

Re: Help me identify my sailboat

Sailed beside a couple of 'em several decades ago in Portland, OR, on the Columbia River and while they are very pretty in a "classic" sort of way. The interior has sitting headroom only.
But you...

Re: $13 LED Dome lights, RV / MARINE - what do you think?

My take on it is that in the earlier days of production sailboats, all of the interior lighting was sourced from the RV industry. Nothing wrong with that, but the fixtures tended to have a lot of...

Lightbulb Re: Downsizing to 25' to 30'

The Ericson Cruising 31 (aka Ericson Independence 31) and the E-28 are both Bruce King designs and both good sailing boats. The 31 had a performance underbody, altho not quite as "fast" as the fin...

Lightbulb Re: Downsizing to 25' to 30'

Good suggestion. Also consider an Ericson 29 or 30. Well built, fast, and well set up for cruising.

Re: Rig tension too tight?

That is a tough design mean't for ocean sailing. I friend of mine has raced one of those for 20 years on a variety of offshore races.
I have no idea what should be ideal, but can report that we back...

Re: Anybody check out the C&C 30 on eBay?

Interior has been removed and hugely reformatted. Gas engine will turn off a lot of potential buyers, too.
Anytime you make big changes in a well-known classic, you risk losing potential buyers...

Lightbulb Re: marine hose source?

I believe that when you visit an industrial hose & fitting supply company you will find that products are not usually labeled 'marine' per se.

The only related markings I have found were on diesel...

Re: C&C 35 mk3 Window repair

There are multiple answers to what is the "best adhesive sealant" for bonded lenses. I prefer BoatLife Life Seal.
Gotta say, there is a C&C 35-3 in our club and the owner agonized over having just...

Re: Bad boat buying experience

It has been many a decade since I sat through BLaw 101, but I recall the pithy saying that "a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's not written on" or something very like that.

I really like...

So did you buy the Ericson?
Ericson owners can be found at the ericsonyachts.org site.
If you sign up there you can ask all sorts of questions.

Re: Buying a Canuck...?

I imported a Canadian built sailboat from Canada in '83. Pre-nafta there was indeed import duty to pay and I did so. The CN dollar was low at the time and I was getting a decent deal on a high end...

Lightbulb Re: Why buy new rigging?

Per your bio, you sail in SF. Salt water, salty air, and strong winds.
While your climate is not as corrosive as it would be in SoCal or Florida, it's still pretty hard on the rig.
And then, and I...

Re: Deck hardware: OK to attach with screws only?

Good suggestions so far. You do want to use a backing plate or at least a "fender washer" for each screw on the inside of the cored layup. And that's above the liner. I have done work just like that...
