Re: *** Marine Battery Use Survey ***

I have never understood why people will make an assumptions about what others have or have not seen, or how it would affect their opinions? The mere existence of boat fires has nothing to do with my...

Re: *** Marine Battery Use Survey ***

Are you sure it's an ABYC requirement? I've never heard that. For a lot of boats, a 300A fuse (max on those MRBF fuses) isn't going to be enough. That's why they make the class T's. Besides, it looks...

Re: *** Marine Battery Use Survey ***

Done. Shared this thread on FB so hopefully some of my friends will also chime in.

What's up with the 'is the fuse 7" from the positive terminal' questions? That would be very difficult to do in...

Re: Exp. Crew or Capt. Wanted for W. Palm to Rhode Isl

Same questions as zz4gta. In particular, how many crew total are you planning on having, and what is the condition/age of the boat.

I've done this delivery four times, both inside and outside....

Re: Spacing & how many mast steps?

I spaced mine at 14" so my wife could climb easily. (I don't want to go up there.)

I also put two side by side at the top.

Re: The Voyages of Paragon, Season 2

Back to Iceland and Greenland?? Did you leave your keys there or something? Isn't that going the wrong way, wind wise, that far north (or does it just not matter)?

Re: The Voyages of Paragon, Season 2

How do you do that "binocular" effect?

Re: Perfect gift for the navigator in your life

I wouldn't be surprised if it simply pre-dates the current 360 degree system. The concept of always placing north at the top of a map is relatively recent (~300 years or so, I think) for instance.

Re: Roller Furling Answers and Opinions Desired

This is my thought exactly. I installed a Schaefer system in Argyle last spring. If you don't mind the weight (and I certainly won't notice it :p ) this is a very robust furler. Very happy so far.

Re: sailing as exercise?

This is my experience exactly. I always come back from a delivery a little lighter than I left, especially if it's mostly outside (US East Coast). Ocean sailing is a terrific low intensity workout,...

Re: Boat slip/mooring CT River

Norwalk will be rather expensive, especially since the closure of Yacht Haven West. I would certainly expect over $100/ft. for a slip. In general, you can get better prices as you move east, so the...

Re: Musto Offshore MPX

Cool! Congratulations. That's a great prize!

They are sized a bit large in order to fit many layers underneath. I'm 5'11" ~220 and my set is an XL and would fit me nice if I weighed 250 or even a...

Re: Reality at Sea - For Cruisers, Singlehanders, and Normal People.

Good advice.

If you're feeling cocky, go to sea. If your not humbled by the time you get back, you weren't out long enough. :)

Re: Liberty 28

Liberty 28's are great small cruising boats. They do have a full keel and a short waterline, so know what you are getting in to, but they are also very solid and well built from what I can tell.

Re: Photos of Robert Perry production yachts

The first boat on the page, Quail, just might be my perfect cruising boat, if I were to have one custom designed. Simply beautiful and still looks functional.

If my pot stock goes to, maybe...

Re: WTB: ABI Charlie Noble and Deck Fitting

Yep, that's on my radar, and that's what I'll do if I can't find the ABI kit. But the ABI system is superior IMO in that it is designed to be removable (the Charlie Noble) and the through deck system...

Re: Headed for LI Sound and Beyond

Hi Chef,

I'm in Milford. It's a great place to stop. The anchorage near Charles Island is great in the nominal west to south-westerlies that we get for most of the summer. It's crap in wind SE to...

Re: So where the heck do you shower???

The boat I learned to sail on (racing) was a ~1984 Dehler Optima 10.1 (~34'). Skipper was about 6'5" and chose the boat for it's extra long berths. I thought it was a pretty good racer/cruiser. Can...
