Re: Stay sail running rigging

I agree entirely with Lanatau: While the loads on the running backstays are probably small, why not install the pad eyes? Kenlanu's are about 1" aft of the end of the track and make a GREAT place...

Re: Stay sail running rigging

I'll add to the debate on the use of the inner track on the side decks afer saying that yes, the staysail leads to the tracks on the cabin top. I have a 110 Yankee and tried to side deck/inner track...

Re: cockpit cover seals

When I re-did the cockpit sole on Kenlanu I used 2" wide gasket material from McMaster Carr. Works Great. AND I use washers with a rubber gasket for the bolts through the floor. BUT Thumper at...

Re: Universal Diesel Thermostat from CarQuest

Yes, I think you are right that the 160F thermostat was for raw-water cooled-engines. Kenlanu is fresh water cooled with a big heat exchanger and ran at 160F +- a degree or two no matter the RPM. ...

Universal Diesel Thermostat from CarQuest

Do you ever do a little project and then go "Why didn't I do that YEARS ago?" That happens all the time here on Kenlanu.

For years I have put up with the Universal Thermostats for my M50-B...

Storm Jib for free

Free but you get what you pay for.

I am selling the storm jib that came with Kenlanu. Got it out yesterday to measure. The sail bag says North Sails 7.5oz Storm Jib and Ranger 33. The sail...

Re: New Tigress Windlass is IN

Dear Keith,

I am sorry for the delay in responding: I was out cruising around the Maine Islands -- with no ATT coverage for the iPad!

While I would have LIKED to move the windlass forward a...

Re: New Tigress Windlass is IN

Dear Keith,

Kenlanu is a PSC 37 (1986). I finally went with 150' of 5/16 HT chain which weighed less and takes up less room than the 120' of 3/8" BBB I had with the old windlass. I have only...

Staysai for PSC 37l at Bacon Sails

Dear Folks, s

I just wanted to let everyone know that though it is mis-filed under Genoas, I have a very new hank-on staysail for sale at Bacon Sails. Catalog # 255-POD3-101. It is only about...

New Tigress Windlass is IN

I just finished the installation and while it was not as bad as I feared (I ran the wire under the cap rail) I am glad it is DONE!

If anyone would like to purchase the old Muir Hercules manual...

Re: Wiring Windlass on PSC 37

Thank you Marc! I had forgotten about this wonderful source of very good information on so many important topics. Plus I had not read the battery cable crimping article and gained a LOT from it.

Re: Wiring Windlass on PSC 37

Thank you everyone! I like the advice to go slow -- and the advice that no matter what the project will probably go Very Slow! So far the route under the port cap rail seems the most direct and...

Re: Wiring Windlass on PSC 37

Thank you, Keith.

I also will be running 2/0 wire and suspect you are right about getting it around bends, each of which would make fishing the wire through progressively more and more difficult....

Wiring Windlass on PSC 37

Dear Folks,

is there any reason I can not run wires from my batteries (under the quarter berth) inside the various cabinets on the Port side and up to the windlass? The only problematic area I...

Re: SeaBoard under windlass?

Dear Dave and David,

Thank you. You are absolutely right that this would be a LOUSY use of a great product. Even if I glued it with the special ($100) glue the caulk between the pad and...

SeaBoard under windlass?

Dear folks,

I also am thinking about installing an electric windlass (Lofrans Tigres) on Kenlanu (PSC 37) and will need to raise it up off the bow by 3 to 4." Thumper at PS sells a kit including...

Re: PS37 genoa -- what size?

My sailmaker said he had made many 130 Yankee's which owners later wished had been 110 or so. I went with the 110 and have not regretted the decision at all. But then I'm in my later 60's and...

Re: Varnishing the interior

I also (re)varnished the interior on Kenlanu. Like others I am glad I did it but on the 1986 PSC 37 it is a BIG job I would never do again. Like other I used Epifanes but found the pure rubbed...

Snubber thoughts

Dear folks,

In floating around various anchorages up and down the US East Coast and the Bahamas I have noticed that people using all-chain or even mostly-chain rodes usually use a large diameter...
