Re: Where are the younger people?

^ well, it does happen all the time around here. It happened twice in my tiny marina in the last two months- and my problem was I wasn't standing there with cash when the seller made it known he...

Re: Where are the younger people?

Shinook, you are right. If you look hard enough it can be done. I don't want to finance either. My intended point was that a motorboat is usually a signature away. While young people may not be...

Re: Where are the younger people?

I tell people I sail and they look at me like I have two heads. It is just something that 99% of the population will never be exposed to. If that sounds wrong to you, then perhaps you live within...

Re: Nice little tub

She must have been the one I saw in St. Thomas just a few months ago.

That vessel is absolutely beautiful.

Is that a Magma grill hanging off the taffrail?

Re: Nice little tub

That is one gorgeous vessel. It looks similar to one I recently saw in St. Thomas, albeit from a distance so I can't really make a comparison.

Re: Nice little tub

Pffft. Obvious riff-raff. I hope he moved on before anyone took notice. I shudder to think of what the neighbors might have said had they thought he was a guest of mine.

Re: Another (stupid?) outboard motor question

...and don't run Ethanol gas in a 2-stroke. Inconsistant problems will manifest in ways that will have you chasing every possible engine problem you can think of, only to discover that your gas is...

Re: Another (stupid?) outboard motor question

You aren't going to hurt the engine by using, or not using, the choke. If it starts and runs, you didn't need the choke. It if won't start, choke it. All the choke is doing is regulating the...

Re: Wire my Garage like a Boat?

Very true. However, you are about a million times more likely to burn your house down by using extension cords or a generator in the first place.

Re: Wire my Garage like a Boat?

Yes, when I posted my response I was thinking the OP wanted to use AC power tools. I was thinking he wanted to run a drill press, grinder, saw, etc from batteries. For what I had in mind there is...

Re: Wire my Garage like a Boat?

Nice workaround with the generator, but that's an awfully expensive way to run tools. But if you don't want to bury a cable for whatever reason, it's the best solution. I can't think of any other...

Re: Will USCG fly over Cuba airspace?

When I was stationed at Guantanamo Bay in the 90's, we had a bad plane crash where the surviving member of the flight crew (civilian flight - it was mail if i recall) had to be flown immediately to...

Re: UK 220 volt spec to US 110 volt

He could get lucky. A quick look at the nameplate on the devices will determine if they are designed for dual voltage. Many single phase motors / heaters will have a nameplate that reads: ...

Re: How do you tie a cleat hitch?

In my younger years working tug boats, your way is exactly the way we worked. A locking hitch would be a disaster waiting to happen. A few reasons come to mind:

1. With a locking hitch, there...

Re: Lowering a hank on jib

I have a Morgan 22 with one little "lifeline" if you want to call it that, about a foot off the deck. (It's nice to have something to grab onto as I belly slide toward the drink.) I mention this...

Re: Totally inadequate chain

(sigh)

I wish installing a new anchor was as easy as buying new fenders. I'd be toting an anchor with a roller skate at the end so it wouldn't gouge the deck when I moved it.

Man, I love new...

Re: Experience with TowBoat US

I wonder, too, if it isn't that there are multiple contracts in play. The BoatUS towboat that came to get me turned out to be a subcontractor. The boat was the typical "BoatUS" marked boat, but...

Re: Experience with TowBoat US

During sail school, the one thing they beat into my head was "if and when you buy a sailboat, the FIRST thing you do is get BoatUS Unlimited towing policy. You WILL use it and using the policy one...
