Re: New 1984 oday 26 advice

We have (2) Oday 26s in our club, both had the mast step issue. Both were repaired quite quickly by the owners, and from below, so you can barely see the work they did. The depression was quite...

Re: Draft-constrained marina

Oh, also the grand slam 6.9 (22 feet) versus the grand slam 7.9 (26 feet).
Both have retractable weighted daggerboards... the difference with the 7.9 is the boat is completely stable with over...

Re: Draft-constrained marina

S2 7.9... go when you want then... but um put a larger winch on the starboard cabintop.

I draw 18 inches board up, 5 ft board down. Also sails better than all the above boats. Oh I should be...

Re: S2 7.9

Just thought I'd add my $0.02 to this thread.

I've owned a Capri 22, a Capri 25, and now this S2 7.9. I've raced for the last 3 years in my Capri 25 with my direct competition being a J/24, J22,...

Re: Fish out of Water

well at least you are in a good location to find "other peoples boats."

Welcome... and it sounds like our early childhood was similar. At 39 I took up REALLY sailing again back in 2011, having...

Re: New computer selection help??

Loving on the brand hate here...
Apples, Dells, HPs, Acer, Toshiba, Sony, Asus, you name it... they are all pretty much made the same. Good news is they are! Meaning most of the parts are pretty...

Re: Stereo Power Installation

Yellow is memory
Red is main power...
The gauge of the wire is usually visibly different too... lighter gauge is for the memory backup.

Re: new to Sail Net

Welcome.. and you'll find many like you... welcome from one who sails a lot but isn't allowed to leave the edges of the lake..

Lots of world cruisers here, and we'd love to hear your story.

Re: Starting them out

I am by NO MEANs an expert parent, but lemme tell you my only experience.

My present wife is a "do-it-all" kind of woman.. She's extremely outdoorsy. She was raising her son essentially solo when...

Re: iPad 4 as a GPS ?

It'll work... to a point.
The charts are technically the same. Of course it won't hold up well to environmental elements (you can get a case so it will)...

resolution isn't great, but it works....

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

You are going to laugh, but I used regular old turtle wax, compound, polish, and wax, and the quality of the job was indistinguishable from some of these guys that laud the poly-glow. Granted, I put...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

Yes don't you know you should be sailing a Mac 26x, with a bluewater bucket? And you should have paid $400 for a survey for a trailer sailor you know.

All I can say is, I'm glad purchases don't...

Re: New here and looking

You realize he has a Call 22 right? He didn't say but I am guessing fixed fin keel.

Equivalent trailers might be a Santana 22, Catalina 22 fixed...

Re: New here and looking

If that is a literal direct question, finding trailers is sometimes easier if you use a craigslist global search for "keel tandem trailer..." look for ones with adjustable boat pads, and you should...

Re: Fitting place for this post....

[Wind]speed is definitely going to change your apparent wind angle (AWA). But you should not be measuring AWA to gauge how tightly you sail to windward... you should be measuring (like was stated)...

Re: New main sail

At the risk of turning this thread over to the political section... Apparently James missed the whole housing "bubble" burst in 2008 (but then he's likely a better "investor" than me).

While house...

Re: Bigger is better & faster?

Faster has you covered...
A smaller boat might hit your top hull speed with less wind... if they have a different shape, and their wetted surface gets bigger with heel, and their rig is powered...

Re: Smartphone wind speed

The Beaufort Scale is free... simple to use, and probably WAY more accurate than the microphone wind speed indicator on your smartphone. Spend $0.99 that towards Navionics for your smartphone.

Re: S2 7.0 vs Dehler Sprinta Sport

Given my recent experience looking at several S2 7.9... smack the deck of the S2 around chainplates and mast step with a small wrench, work your way out/around the area, listen to the sound... if it...

Re: single-hand: best time raise/lower jib?

The tiller tamer is a nice $20 piece of equipment for a 22footer or less... I always used a bungee!

Oh, and as for going to irons to reef? On a 25 footer or less? Um no... Close haul baby!!! ...

Re: Just set sail

The 15 to 20 degrees max is a good set of numbers to go by, HOWEVER, without an inclinometer, many over-estimate the angle of heel they are on.

I just love to heel, it's not unusual while out just...
