Re: Modern convenience and boat size

I mean, I was just looking at a combination washer and dryer that can run off a 2000 watt inverter and would actually fit on my 30' boat.

What washer/dryer combo is that? I found a washer that...

Re: A GOOD multimeter (that won't break the bank)

The only way you can get my Fluke is to pry it from my cold dead hands!

Re: Harvest Moon Regatta

I sure would like to know what happened on board French Kiss so I can avoid their mistake. I've been through those jetties several times but never at night. I can image sorting out the lighted nav...

Re: Navionics Chart Question

Randy,

I did eventually figure it out but mine is a little more complicated. You move the cursor to the light in question and drill down through a few menu options and you will eventually get a...

Re: Rigid Bilge Blower Tubing???

PCV sounds like it would work fine but honestly since my engine is diesel I never bothered to run the blower and eventually ripped out the vent tubing.

Re: Navionics Chart Question

Alex,

I updated to LightHouse II two weeks ago. Still don't see the light characteristics of the buoys. I'm starting to think it's just not included in the chart data. I may try the LightHouse...

Re: Navionics Chart Question

J,

I will have another look at the different layers and check it after dark to see if it's somehow linked to time of day (I doubt it, but you never know). Is this information available on your...

Re: Navionics Chart Question

I tried that but as far as I can tell when you do that it thinks you're trying to create a way point.

Navionics Chart Question

I have a Raymarine e series chartplotter with Navionics gold charts and while these charts have lots of auxiliary information on them (marinas, fuel docks, etc. ) they appear to be missing some basic...

Re: Wind Vane Calibration

Lumelind,

I'm guessing my unit is reading high by about 20%. It reads 30 knots in what I think is about 25 knots.

Re: Nothing has changed in 50 years...many sailors still can't navigate...

Hi James,

I certainly agree folks should have some basic knowledge before setting out (colregs, basic boat handling etc.) but at the end of the day knowledge is not the same as experience and the...

Re: Depth gauge on cat 25 acting up

I am having EXACTLY the same problem. It just started about a week ago. The boat in currently on the hard for a bottom job. I'm hoping it goes away when it goes back in the water.

Re: Wind Vane Calibration

The direction looks about right, the speed seems a bit high so it's the speed that may need calibration.

Wind Vane Calibration

I've just installed a new Raymarine wind vane (E22078) which is connected to an ITC 5 converter and i70 display. It seems to read a bit high compared to other boats nearby. Does anyone know if...

My wife and I use our tank water regularly for both cooking and drinking and have had no health issues. We do shock the tanks with bleach annually. Using bottled water while cruising doesn't sound...

Re: Jeanneau 42 vs. Catalina 42

I don't know much about the Jeanneau but the Catalina 42 is a very popular cruising boat. I don't think you can go wrong there if you find one in good condition.

Re: Dripless Shaft Seal versus Stuffing Box

I have the dripless seal. The original was leaking when I bought the boat and it didn't have the air bleed hose. I replaced it and not had any trouble with it since. It was replaced about two...

Re: Advice on sailing from Galveston Bay to Matagorda Bay

I think most of the well heads are between Freeport and Matagorda so I would try to do that stretch in daylight. Probably means leaving Galveston at night.

Make sure you're monitoring channel 16....
