Re: Sinking Feeling

I had that happen to me last winter. We had heavy snow that blocked the drain in the cockpit then immediately followed by rain. Came to the boat and the bilge was full. And my boat is on a trailer.

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I don't think it's a thread drift at all. In order to keep costs low, it helps to be aware of of what those costs are. Medical/Health care is an important thing to consider.

I'm coming up to...

Re: Dry or wet sand gel coat?

I did dry sanding a bit on my boat and it does clog up the paper. I did that because I didn't have a source of water near the boat while it's on the hard. For higher grits, I used a bucket of water...

Re: I'm starting my own navy

I've been planning out the addition of a second boat, a dinghy.

Sometimes have to stop looking at boats because there are many that are well priced and need a little work to be sailing again....

Re: Name this Antenna!!!

Yep this.

I've usually seen it for either VHF NOAA weather satellite signals (not microwave) or ham radio use and has a generally good omni-directional signal pattern.

Re: Interior wood refinishing

I can't be sure but I've read something that Deks Olje (http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=168) (Deck's Oil) might have been used on my boat's interior. It was built...

Re: What issues what State

I don't know about that. I bought my boat and quickly received a letter from California trying to charge me a use tax. I had to send them documentation to show that I bought and would use the boat in...

Re: Tragedy near the Bay Bridge

Shawn,

I honestly don't think I've seen another post on this forum that had so many likes, especially so quickly.

You did a great thing and did what you could. No need to think of what could'a...

Re: Deck Prism...photos?

I like the idea of them for extra light. The only time I've seen them mentioned were on a couple wooden boats like this Lyle Hess 34. https://svskye.wordpress.com/page/2/ A few pictures there show...

Re: Bob Perry's take on Wolfenzee's dream boat

That's really too bad. I would have thought someone would have bought it by now. Looking at his album (http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/members/11210-albums331.html) on CF, it was a really nice...

Re: How poor is the average liveaboard cruiser?

I'm getting to this point too.

Just like living on land, you have so much advertisements or other people telling you what you should do/have in order to be happy and if you have anything less,...

Re: Transporting Sailboat by land

it's likely you could do a cradle. You could also likely put on jack stands like shown in this post from another Sailnet Member. There's a few posts on this blog getting their trailer ready but it's...

Re: Battery choices for offshore use

I'm looking at replacing my batteries soon too. So if AGM is staying charged by a solar panel or two, it should be good?

My boat is on a trailer away from commercial power source. I'm looking at...

Re: what boat to buy help please

I was going to suggest the Norsea too, but out of your budget and length. It may be considered a 27' boat but add length of bowsprit and wind vane, total length ends up being closer to 33'. That's...

Re: Painting Mast

From what I can tell, it could be anodized. The examples I've seen online show people using Alodine 1201 which leaves a visible coating that is tan/gold in color. Just looking at the Alumiprep bottle...

Re: Painting Mast

Other than Drake Paragon's video of his mast work, I've seen other resources online talk about treating aluminum before painting and much of it in a similar manner.

I just ordered Alumiprep 33...

Re: Painting Mast

There are a lot of different ways that people go about this, but try looking on YouTube for "Drake Paragon mast". That is how I plan to do mine. Or at least as a guide.

Re: Computer Upgrade

This could be very true. I bought a server to play around with and it does NOT like Linux. It'll run (sort of) from a Live Disk but not on its own. So now, trying to get it to work under windows...

I'm a little late and started making some responses to others here even though some things were already answered, I'll include it here.

I don't plan on going back to windows. I had played around...
