Read any good books lately?

"Godforsaken Sea" is another good read, as is "Fastnet, Force 10".

Read any good books lately?

I''ve read "A Fatal Storm", "Knockdown", and "The Proving Ground".

Of the three, I liked "The Proving Ground" the least.

While if provided lots of in depth time on a few stories (Sword of...

Spinnaker Wrap Poll

It''s a lot easier to use a cruising chute short handed than a symetrical, unless you''re boat handling skills are way up there.

It also would depend on your rig - on my boat you''ve got seperate...

Looks - detriment or asset?

I''d say looks is only as important in a cruising partner as they are to anyone else you''d get intimately involved with. If someone is going to be a life partner type I would expect some degree of...

DVD or video

For my $.02, if you''re only going to do one, do the DVD. Both would be better for your market, but I can imagine the cost of producing in both media would be high.

Video tape is on the way...

older C & C''''s

Just as an FYI - there is a C&C 37 for sail in the next marina down from my yacht club. I don''t think it''s a brokerage boat since he is advertising himself locally. Price is in the 50''s, I...

Best time to buy

Fall is NE is the best. People that have decided to sell their boats are REALLY motivated before they''ve paid for winter storage etc.

Having just been through this (buying and selling a boat in...

Newer C&Cs

Keep in mind that the newer C&C''s are NOT built by the same company that built the older ones.

Not that it''s inherently bad, but C&C these days is just a licensed Brand Name, not a seperate...

Love the stuff.

We go over the hardware ever couple of weeks during racing season. General guideline: If it moves...Sailkote it. If something moves over it or through it, do the same. Good in...

Diver to clean much $

None of you guys talk to the guy that dives on my boat, OK?

For my forty footer he charges me $1.00/ft for weekly cleaning. $1.25 if I have it done biweekly (I don''t).

Wanted: Hinckley,Swan,J105,BeneHunterCat

BTW - to help the original poster...

Some nice C&C''s can certainly be had in that range. I had a C&C 37 for a couple of years which I was quite fond of. Good sturdy boat, sailed well.

Denr -

Still looking for that "Cockpit Picnic Table" that you were talking about for my Beneteau First 40.7.

Would have come in hand on our vacation last week. Of course it might have...

Getting children involved

This past weekend my son (age 5) drove the boat for about 15 minutes twice. Under power, flat water, no boats nearby. He''s still talking about it.

Yesterday he also helped put away the jib...

Asym Spinaker-Sprit and RRS

My sailmaker has tried an interesting experiment on his Beneteau First 40.7.

He put a sprit on it, and races with an asymetrical. He does not use any symmetrical spinnkakers. The local PHRF...

San Juan 7.7 PHRF rating

Do yourself a favor though and look for a local One Design fleet. The J/24 is one of the most common O/D boats out there.

O/D vs. PHRF is a frequent holy war topic on some web sites, but since...

Definition of "Yacht"

>>BTW, I thought if the boat has a galley, a permanent head, and sleeping space for the whole family, then most likely it could be called a "yacht".<<

Actually if it has those, plus a mortgage...

PHRF Question

That is a pretty big bump for the sail size.

Are the two sails similar in condition, shape, etc.? Or are you comparing an older, stretched 153?

On my boat in Narragansett Bay, we race a lot in...

Dealer margins on New Boats

I was quite surprised to find the Beneteau dealer I spoke with last fall to be completely unwilling to budge an inch on the boat price. I was looking at a used 2000 First 40.7 (which I later bought)...
