Thanks everyone for the ideas...the GP 14 in particular looks like a beautiful boat, as does the Hobie 14T, although that Hobie looks a little more intimidating than the Wave for a lightweight novice...

Ideas on which dinghy/small boat to buy?

I'm looking to buy my first boat to sail in LI Sound and am looking for suggestions on a dinghy, small cat boat or catamaran (not for racing, just day sailing)

I have a few years of experience...

WFC has full season boat rentals but they don't have facilities to keep your own boat. Norwalk has a marina I'll be exploring with jet ski...

Yup the Waterfront Center in Oyster Bay is great, I took lessons there over the summer...but there's definitely an appeal to owning my own boat if I find the right spot...keeping costs down by buying...

Thanks for the info...definitely would bring a paddle, although the idea of needing to paddle away from barges in a strong current makes me think twice about the location. Haven't been up there yet...
