Re: Boat renaming/denaming

I may be a racer, and bleed for speed... but I love classic lines. It pits me against myself when it comes to my next boat.

That boat has some beautiful lines. Sounds to me, like you can call it...

10 years sailing a Nacra, ain't no Newbie! Great boats, always wanted one to play with.

I bought an S2, so I'd have a head for my daughter/wife. I also bought it so I could single hand the boat...

Re: Input Requested on a O’Day 25 we looked at.

Might be OK with a 26 footer then....
I rig my 26 foot myself, and launch myself. Its also a simple single upper/lower, so its remove the forestay, and drop the mast. It also has a single pin for...

Re: New sail the -0

Someone posted a video of a Melges 32 on that "other" site, sailing backwards under asym, doing like 5 knots too!... although photoshop seems to be what has happened in the above picture, as the bow...

Re: Input Requested on a O’Day 25 we looked at.

Ok, if the present owner didnt' replace the sails in the last 5 years, they are pretty much worthless.
the gelcoat crazing IS normal for a 40 year old boat... which is probably too much for most of...

Re: New S2 9.2A Owner Any Advice?

rebed anything that was installed after commissioning. Also maybe everything that goes through the hull.

Seriously though, nice boat... but stanchions, winches, cleats, rope clutches, sometimes...

Re: What's your biggest bonehead move sailing?

Frogc... one of those memorable moments of our US Yacht 27 was the day she was commissioned. They could not get the motor started as the batteries were dead. no room to run a line around the...

Re: Need new stantion

If there was enough force to bend the stanchion then there was likely a compromise of the seal at the base, so I'd pull the stanchion as soon as convenient. Garhauer is a great place to get a...

Re: Where to buy TillerPilot

If you have a problem with a tiller pilot the manufacturer is your place to go for "warranty repair." Sending it back to the place of purchase is NOT what you are supposed to do.

I will...

Re: Opinions: Seaward 23 or Catalina 22 or other suggestions?

I reread most of the advice of this thread, and I figure if the OP follows it...
they'll own a 3500 dually diesel.
Tow the boat out to the hudson
The boat will be a Catalina 22 swing keel
the...

Re: Mercury 2-Stroke Won't Start

Number 1 thing on a 2 stroke that I always check, is pop the plug(s) out clean off the gunk (I usually use a wire brush) smell the end of the plug (do you smell fresh fuel?)... the questions you want...

Re: Opinions: Seaward 23 or Catalina 22 or other suggestions?

Just to disagree with myself... just raced our 3rd in the series...
I got beat (my S2 7.9) by a Catalina 22! and a Catalina 25! Of course this was all on corrected time. They were all pretty...

Re: US (Bayliner) 22 or Chrysler 22

I'm happy to see others liked the US product line... they are a highly bashed boat, or at least were, but I think time has proven some of the bashing was warranted, but mostly they've held their own...

Re: How high can I go?

I've attempted to use a 30amp charger, running off my Yamaha 1000watt unit, and it works, sort of. It seems to drop back to 10amp charge frequently, but I am not sure if that is the charger or the...

Re: US Yachts - 27'' - 1982

These boats are well known for their leaking portlights (windows) and deadlights. Most required proper rebedding along the way, which unfortunately was rarely done.

The substantial amount of...

Re: US (Bayliner) 22 or Chrysler 22

I'd disagree, and go with the US 22. Work is done, and it's likely a better sailing boat.

My father owned a US 27, and my brother a US 25, both boats were nice sailing boats... the quality on...

Re: What you wish you did when you got your boat?

Wish, I had taken my father by the hand and dragged his keester down to the boat, and took him sailing.

Sorry... Long story.

Re: Need advice: looking to purchase a Catalina 22

Just remember despite ALL evidence to the contrary, the Cat 22 is faster than the Capri 22 :)

the things to look for could fill a book... this is a good start....

Re: Dyneema standing rigging

This is about the time I point out that standing rigging was made of line for quite a bunch of years (like hundreds) before it was made of steel :)

Re: Opinions: Seaward 23 or Catalina 22 or other suggestions?

Having owned the wing Keel model Capri, and raced against several Cat 22s... I can honestly say the Cat 22 should not be in the same time zone as the Cat 22.
Best Portsmouth rating Cat 22 is 94.7......

Re: What are the 3 lines in boom

Correct me if I am wrong (and I am a lot)...
But it was pretty common to have a flattener with a dacron main, to help tension the leech before you reef (kind of a poor mans reef before you reef). ...

Re: Opinions: Seaward 23 or Catalina 22 or other suggestions?

Ok, if the Oday 25 is even a consideration then my own boat an S2 7.9 would be better than everything else mentioned.
It's heavy built.
It draws only 18" of water (super easy to launch)
it's self...
