Re: Anyone ever rent out a cabin on their boat?

Pupil, it would certainly help to let people know what kind of boat you have. Or, are you thinking of buying one to live on?

You might have luck in approaching a sailing school the needs a...

On your to do list I would say yes to:

The dodger
The jack-lines, not a big expense.
The refrigeration.. add to existing ice box if properly insulated.

Re: Tornados/Severe Weather (Inland Lake)

Leighm, the bow is the pointy end in the front. ;-)

I don't believe that there's much you can do for a concussion on a boat, other than get the person to lay down, keep them still and maybe keep...

Re: Tornados/Severe Weather (Inland Lake)

Re: Coastal sailing without depth finder?

Dreamdoer, A depth-sounder, like a tent is just a tool. My point was that a tent is a more useful tool on a mountain top in a storm, than a cell phone with no cell coverage.
I've done a...

Re: Coastal sailing without depth finder?

As usual, the OP has to sort through the information to make his own informed decision.

Re: Coastal sailing without depth finder?

1 1/2 ft is a very shoal draft. What make/model is your boat? swing keel?

Managing to keep yourself in 2 ft + of water shouldn't be that difficult. Soft groundings in a small boat are not...

Re: Boat registration NY/NJ

It's a bit tricky here in the Garden State. For tidal waters you need a boating safety certificate. This is just a card that currently has no expiration. No Motor Vehicle division involvement...

Re: Boat registration NY/NJ

I agree with Jim above...and not to complicate your life further, if you register in NJ you'll also need a NJ safe boating certificate unless you have a coast guard license. You can take the course...

Re: Boat registration NY/NJ

According to NY's registration site they call it a " Sales tax" and you pay it at the time of registration or provide proof that you paid it elsewhere. Unless you file an exemption form.

Re: Boat registration NY/NJ

Your Boat will be " Based" in NJ; While it's called NY harbor, they share the Hudson with NJ.

I believe NJ considers 180 days of consecutive use in their waters a resident vessel.
It's...

Re: another a sail question

You can attach a line to the Boot ( Tacker) that goes around your furled head sail It doesn't have to be a fixed length allowing you to adjust the height.
