Re: Are sailing magazine articles boring?

I have written to two magazines in the past about submitting contributions and I know of at least one other who has done the same. Did we get a thank you but no thank you, constructive criticism or...

Re: What is the most idiotic mistake you have made on a boat?

Re: Are sailing magazine articles boring?

Which dictionary would that be. To us Brits using the Queens English you have someone who was drunk when they wrote it. Some words are confused and the spelling is awful.
I presume if you used a...

Re: What is the most idiotic mistake you have made on a boat?

It was a windless day with the sun beating down in the Greek islands when I found I needed to go below and point Percy at the porcelain and check our position on the chart.
I gave my son the helm...

Re: Are sailing magazine articles boring?

Anchorbend. That is really strange because being British most of my comments are directed towards the British boating magazines. They re run the same articles every year and there are far fewer of...

Re: Are sailing magazine articles boring?

Chuck. I have to agree with all that you have said.
Even on our own website we have been offered money to put a blog written by some company or other with links back to them. I could do nothing and...

Re: Are sailing magazine articles boring?

Online magazines seem to have a little more freedom in what they can publish and they also publish from many good and varied contributors.
Normal sailing magazines seem to be caught in a rut and...

Are sailing magazine articles boring?

Having met so many sailors who are characters with an excellent sense of humour why are sailing articles in magazines so boring. I don't blame the contributors but I do blame the magazines for...

What is the most idiotic mistake you have made on a boat?

We all make mistakes but the trick is to learn from it. What is the biggest idiotic mistake you or someone aboard has made?

Re: How poor is the average liveaboard cruiser?

Having now lived on our boat for five years whilst sailing I wish I had known before just how little you need to live on a boat and truly enjoy life, people and talking.
When we lived in a house and...

Re: How poor is the average liveaboard cruiser?

We have tended to find that your first group do not live aboard the whole year. They have property somewhere which they go to for winter.
Although our boat fits into your group two, but our income...

Re: How poor is the average liveaboard cruiser?

The one thing about forums is that no matter what you write on them or how you put it people will always try to rip the original question apart or the person writing it.
I don't know how many...

How poor is the average liveaboard cruiser?

I phrased it as how poor because it is amazing that everyone who does not own a boat thinks that because you do you are rich.
We have been living aboard and sailing slowly around the world for the...

Unless you actually do a sailing blog I don't think you realise how much thought and time has to go into it. Sometimes it is really hard word.

What mistakes have you made whilst anchoring?

Every sailor knows that some of the best entertainment you can get is to take a beer on deck in an anchorage and sit there saying to yourself "I wouldn't have done that".
You know if you are the...

Re: Why is our boat such a mess?

And why do they make nuts and bolts the same diameter at each end so you never have two of that socket or spanner?

Why is our boat such a mess?

The way I look at it most people who live aboard boats are 1) "Mr Bodge it's", 2) "Mr Fix It's" or 3) "Mr I will pay someone else to do it"
I must admit to being a bit of the first two and as a...

The other thing is my battery amp meter. Having one means i have to keep...

Re: 6v or 12v batteries

There in lies a dilema.
We need some more solar panels but what is the point when the batteries are not holding the charge too well. Our bank lasted 5-6 years which was pretty good really so I...
