Replace Standing Rigging

I'd like to replace the standing rigging on my 27' O'day sailboat. Is it possible for me to look up the specs for that boat and order a package from a company or do I have to measure each wire?

Rolly Tasker Sails, Florida

I just got a quote for a 6.5 oz dacron sail with hanks on luff for $695 to replace my torn genoa. The price is much lower than other quotes. Anyone ever bought sails from this maker before?

Replace Sails

Please forgive the dumb question - but how do I replace a sail? Is the only way to give the dimensions to a sail maker and have a new one made? Is there a used sail market? I have a 1972 O'Day and...

Re: Jib catches while tacking

By revising the tacking method I assume that you mean either let the jib slowly cross over the center line of the boat or wait until it is backwinded and have it pulled more quickly to avoid the...

Re: Jib catches while tacking

I've included a picture of where it is catching. It hooks on a rung on the shrouds. I think a roller furler may do the trick?

Jib catches while tacking

My Jib is ripping as it catches on the ladder that is also the rigging on my sailboat. Is there something that I can attach to the ladder to prevent it from catching?

I've added a picture on page...

Re: Standing Rigging is really slack

The mast has been up. I've been sailing regularly. When I got to the boat today I noticed that it was slack. I was on it last weekend and I don't think it was like that as I'm sure that I would...

Standing Rigging is really slack

One strand of my standing rigging is suddenly really loose. I believe that it is the intermediate shroud. It starts 2/3s of the way up the mast and attaches to the port side of the boat. Is there...

Re: Looking for help looking for a boat!

I spent $8,000 on a 27' O'day a couple of years ago. It isn't much to look at but I learned to sail on it, take it out all of the time and really enjoy being on it. I feel like I've gotten more...

Re: The great things about owning a sailboat that no one tells you about

A couple hours of sailing lifts your spirit for days. I know that it does for mine anyway.

Rip in Jib

My jib is on a roller furler and has recently developed a small tear. I'm assuming it will grow if I don't do something soon. How difficult is it to lower the jib on a furler in order to repair? ...

"The 2 happiest days of a boatowners life are..."

I don't buy it. I just don't. I bought my first sailboat 2 years ago right after taking a couple of lessons on a flying scott. It is a 27' O'day. It isn't the ugliest boat in the mooring field...

I'll be in Key West shortly and would like to rent a sailboat for a day. Does anyone know of an agency that will let me charter a sailboat for that length of time?
