Re: Lets talk about dinghies y'all

There is a fourth method to stow your dink: Dinghy-Tow. It is essentially a semi-davit system that raises a dinghy's stern end out of the water only and leaves the bow to drag. The tilted...

Re: Outboard oil mix specs

[QUOTE=Omatako;2083841]How much older would these outboards be?

I recall in the 60's mixing 50:1 outboard oil for 2 hp Seagull outboards and doing the same mix for 250 hp racing outboards in the...

Re: Patching a PVC inflatable, what works for you?

I've used Seal All with good results. Especially so with pin holes and no patch at all. It comes in a yellow tube and is readily available at Lowes and Home Depot.

Re: The Benefits of Bottom Feeding

We need pictures of these "depreciated" gems. I can't remember how to post pictures or I'd have done so.

Re: Mooring Help

We spoke several months ago by telephone. It sounds like you are well on your way. One thing to remember: it takes time for the mushroom to truly settle in and provide holding power. West...

Re: Help me pick a sailing dinghy

O'Day made a 10' dinghy called the Sprite. It's the little brother to the Widgeon. Certainly a cheaper choice than the Dyer or the CD 10.

Re: What material is best for boat yards?

Fstbttms is correct. All run-off, whether it is poisonous or not, needs to be managed. Natural vegetation and landscape design can help in this endeavor. If your state regulations do not already...

Re: Mantus anchor raffle

The real issue is why must we use Facebook to participate? If this vendor is so good, why are they discriminating against those who do not want any part of social media sites?

Re: Chainplate Fabricator Recommendations?

I see you are in MD. Metal Craft on George Street in Annapolis is my go-to metal shop. You can show up with blue prints or back-of-an-envelope diagrams and they (Buddy and John) always do a good...

Re: The "SailNet is Done - 4 Year Old Thread!" Thread is Done

In the same spirit of this thread, why has Sailnet elected to post the notice at the top of every page about new ownership and Verticalscope LLC fo so long? Is this really news? Is it important to...

Splash Page Meltdown

For the past 10 days or so, each time I return to the Sailnet splash page after a second it shifts to showing mostly code and none of the latest forum discussions. It seems as if one banner is...

Re: Mooring Help

I just wrote three paragraphs about my experience of setting a mooring in Galesville, but Sailnet lost all of it. Instead of typing it all again, why not just PM me with your phone number. I'll...

Re: Favorite Boat Shoe???

Regarding the issue of moisture and bacteria, Delta-T is spot on. But if alcohol wipes aren't likely to become a habit for your shoe maintenance plan, I suggest you get two pairs so that one will...

Re: Interesting Homemade Accessory

The best ideas are often simple and elegant! My only concern is the forward outboard corner of each plate; it may have been better if the PO had made the angle obtuse instead of square - like the...

Re: Best week to sail in MA

Since no one has mentioned this, I'll chime in. Late Spring can be very foggy, especially around Chatham and Nantucket. Oftentimes it will not burn off until 11:00 AM.

Also be aware of the shoals...

Re: Lewmar Lofrans Maxwell -Oh My -What Windlass to Buy

Back to the original topic....

I have a small Lofrans windlass on my 30' catamaran and I like it immensely. Originally it was designed to power up only; releasing the warp was accomplished simply...

Re: Baggett and Sons East Coast Road Trip

Re: Aren't boats too easy to steal?

As others have indicated, it isn't the (sail)boat that interests thieves but rather the gear. A few years ago someone decided they needed the upper chain, mooring buoy and pickup pennant I was...

Without pictures of your rehabilitated boat, as far as we can tell you haven't done squat! That's right - without pictures it never happened. So you go right ahead, moan and groan all you...

Re: Flying Scot - did I buy the wrong boat?

I was raised on dinghies starting back in '74, sailing many different designs under 20' over the years since. Over a decade ago I taught adults to sail on Flying Scots for two seasons at one of the...
