Re: Shallow draft daysailer

JWing you have some excellent advice. I think I'm pretty much sold on the cat idea.

I found a used getaway for a very good price but it is a days drive away. Crazy I live on some beautiful water...

Re: Shallow draft daysailer

That'd work great but it would take me about 10 hours to just get out of Texas!

Re: Shallow draft daysailer

I've always liked the Potters...but they are beyond my price point. The ones I've seen recently have been hovering around 10k for the 19 footer.

Re: Shallow draft daysailer

As far as I'm aware there isn't a dry storage there and I really want to stay with smaller. I can get a slip with electricity for $80/month so sticking it in a slip for half the year isn't a big...

Re: Shallow draft daysailer

Thank you for the information. I guess I never considered that as an option for storing gear.

There's a Prindle(18) and a Getaway within 6 hours of me. It is almost always VERY windy (20-30...

Re: Shallow draft daysailer

The plan is to trailer the boat. Renting a slip is an option for half the year, during the usable season..however right now that's not the plan.

I'm thinking of beaching or getting hung up on...

Shallow draft daysailer

I'm stuck in a good place. I'll be buying a sailboat sometime soon, most likely for next season although this close to the equator it's pretty much warm all the time. I'd be sailing in very far...

Re: Hello from S. Padre Island, Tx

I'm not but people around me are. Been some pretty good storms coming through here, but I've only seen a couple light showers. Corpus and the areas a little east of me have seen a lot more of it. ...

Hello from S. Padre Island, Tx

Well technically Harlingen, but that's where I'll be sailing. My dad was an avid sailer in the 80s, mostly on Harpoons and a Stiletto cat. I have memories of it a little, but I got interested in...

Re: Examples of good sailing dinghys for shallow areas?

Lol. I can buy 16s for 500-1000 and 18s for 2-2.5k pretty frequently. But the problem is setting them up solo. I'm 6'3" but a pretty anemic 170 lbs. I had a Nacro 5.0 for awhile but sold it...

Re: Examples of good sailing dinghys for shallow areas?

I'm sorry. When I said cat, I meant Catamaran. Not the Beetles..although there is one for sale about 8 hours away I saw on craigslist. They're beautiful boats.

Re: Examples of good sailing dinghys for shallow areas?

That's an interesting looking boat!

I would like to add that I will be towing the boat with a CRV, so I'd like it to stay as light as possible. And I'd like it to be unsinkable. My memory...

Examples of good sailing dinghys for shallow areas?

I'm looking for examples of boats so I can place wanted ads in my local classifieds. I'll be sailing in the lower Laguna Madre, around South Padre Island, Tx. The water is pretty shallow in some...

Re: American 14.6 questions

I really appreciate the advice. I am kind of on my own here. I called the local yacht club and they really only deal with boats larger than 25'. I'm sure I can find someone that has some...

Re: American 14.6 questions

Thank you for the reply and the clarification.

The boat drafts about 3 and a half feet. When I'm sailing and get into water shallower than that what do I do? Let the board drag the bottom a...

American 14.6 questions

I'm getting ready to purchase my 3rd sailboat. My first was a fixer upper that never made it to the water. My 2nd was a Nacra 5.0 that I sailed a handful of times; I had a lot of trouble sailing it...
