Strong wbbing termination--what is it good for?

I came across this and did some pull testing; about 85-90% BS, stronger than most commercially sewn eyes, particularly in nylon webbing (hard to sew). twice the strength of any common webbing knot. I...

Re: How much purchase for J/27 backstay?

Just put a spectra, cascaded backstay on my S2 7.9, which is a telephone pole compared to the J27... I did 4:1, cascaded 2:1, so 8:1... recommended by another S2 owner. It works, but it's coarse,...

Re: How much purchase for J/27 backstay?

The original J-27 one-design backstay adjuster was a split backstay and sliding block set up that pulled the splits together to tension the rig. I believe that may still be the class association...

Re: Ranger 23 Paint and...

I sanded and polished the transom and port side before doing anything on the starboard side, but I've gotta say that it's coming out amazingly well for a rolled on paint job. I still kinda wish that...

Re: If the diesel tank is done for...

Another thing to do similar to this that I've had very good results with myself is 3M Scotchkote sealant on the inside of the tank. It's a liquid epoxy that you roll on to the interior of the tank -...

Re: Chartplotter at the nav station

I use a laptop at the nav station, rather than a pedestal mount, since I don't steer by the chartplotter. If I'm going to be looking at any instrumentation, it's the depth sounder.

Re: Chartplotter at the nav station

You might also consider moving the C70 chartplotter on deck and put a laptop with nav software at the nav station.

Re: Chartplotter at the nav station

There are many options out there for dual displays (not sure exactly which models off-hand, I'm still fairly new to it all myself), but there are plenty that offer remote displays, or syncing with...

Re: Suggestions for coastal cruiser

Hello,

Since you listed the C&C 99 I would add the C&C 110. You can find them for under $100K. Much more room than the 99.

Also consider the Tartan 3500. The Sabre 362 would be nice, but I...

Re: Suggestions for coastal cruiser

My favorite for that coastal cruising category in the price range you suggested is the Catalina MK 42.

Re: Stewart-Warner tachometer?

What you need is an alternator/AC Tap/Stator tap driven alternator. They are often called "diesel" tachs.

There are a number of generic ones out there made by companies such as WEMA, Faria,...
