I'd suggest getting one from a car (auto) store, the ranges are more likely to be useful on a boat. Flukes are great, I have two at home, but there is no way I'd take one on the boat.

IMO the best solution is a Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) which combines the banks automatically. However, a diode splitter is OK so long as the battery sense wire is downstream of it.

Yes, but it will turn off the field windings, so it won't do any harm. Imagine how silly it would be to have a switch that went through a position where it could damage your alternator.

My Raymarine ST60 Tridata display module is faulty. It works fine as a display, but the SeaTalk output is dead. If I plug it into the SeaTalk bus, it kills the data on the bus.
