Re: Holding tank vent fitting options

Thanks everyone. I hadn't considered just looking at other boats. Venting to the topside does make the most sense. I was worried about stinky seawater getting in when heeling hard, but if the vent...

Holding tank vent fitting options

I'm installing a holding tank setup on my Cal 2-27, which never had one.
Arrived at the last bit: installing the vent line. I plan to run the hose up to the cabin side since I figure that's the...

Re: Mount above-deck gas tank below-deck?

I considered that for a minute, but I can't imagine what's inside the tank. Engine seized at least 5 years ago, per p.o., so I suspect there's some 5 year old diesel in there. The tank exterior and...

Re: Mount above-deck gas tank below-deck?

Mine has the "vomit red" stripe.
Now, if I can only find out where to buy one of these tanks. There's a 6 gallon on ebay for $200. I notice the Moeller site says "approved for use in Australia,...

Re: Mount above-deck gas tank below-deck?

The more I think about it, the less I'm inclined to move the tank below deck. The cabin is currently clean and odor free, and bilge is clean and dry as a bone, and I'd like things to stay that way....

Re: Mount above-deck gas tank below-deck?

I see the Catalina 27 has a large, proper lazarette (my Cal 2-27 cockpit runs right to the transom). The 4th pic at the listing below shows a portable tank in the lazarette with a couple of vent...

Re: Mount above-deck gas tank below-deck?

Thanks for the input, folks. I don't think fuel delivery will be an issue since I would install it at about the same height it is now, just on the other side (inside) of the cockpit wall. But I am...

Mount above-deck gas tank below-deck?

On a new-to-me Cal 27, the p.o. installed an outboard engine to keep sailing despite a dead inboard (which I intend to remove). He just kept the gas tank sitting on the cockpit floor full time. ...

Re: Cheap sewing machine that takes a binding feeder?

Thanks for the input, folks. I should have looked harder -- just received this guy in the mail, no need to bolt to the machine!

Re: Cal 27 vs Albin Vega

Get the Cal! I'm a bit biased as I recently bought one (we are talking about the popular 2-27, I assume, as opposed to the original 27, T2, or 80's 27-3). My Vega experience is limited to stepping...

Cheap sewing machine that takes a binding feeder?

A few years and 2 boats ago, I used my sister's 1990's(?) Singer Scholastic to make everything from a tiller cover up to a Sailrite dodger kit(!). It bogged down a little doing the dodger windows and...

Re: Just beginning to shop around... would love feedback/ideas...

Hi Shadow -- apparently I can't respond to PMs until I have 15 posts, so I'll save everything I started writing for a future reply. But, to be brief: yes, please do let me know if you hear anything...

Re: Just beginning to shop around... would love feedback/ideas...

Hey Shadow,
Just stumbled on this thread. Your posts have been very helpful to a fellow bay area coder thinking about buying a small boat, probably also a c27, to liveaboard. Have had so many...
