Good stuff, Med - thx! Hadn't heard chicken gybe but have done a few ;). Sheeting in a letting out well-timed make a huge difference in controlling a jibe!

There's a great hole on the Vineyard named Tashmoo. Check depths as it's tight and shallow, but a real treat if you can get in!

cell phone for wet use?

My iPhone in a heavy-duty ziplock bag has been fine. Seeing and controlling phone is fine and handling wet conditions isn't a problem. I wouldn't go swimming with it like this though.

Plenty of water up my way. Take the Cape Cod Canal straight up coast, which can also be faster. Numerous deep anchorages unless you're looking for a straight shot.
