Re: Destep or not Destep?

Hi Capecodda,

It's funny that you should say that, because about 10 mins before your message, I received an e-mail from a friend who said I should leave the mast up and just throw a tarp over the...

Re: Destep or not Destep?

The normal practice at the club is to leave the mast in.
It would cost about $300-400 per year to destep and store the mast on top of the normal haulout and storage fees.
I'm still waiting on an...

Destep or not Destep?

I'm the new owner of a 1989 CS36 Merlin.
The boat came with a custom canvas cover and cover frame designed to work with a destepped mast. The old owner was a member at a club that used a crane to...

Re: Boat Ventilation

Take a look at travlineasy's post about using computer fans. Looking up at those two small cowl vent holes in the salon roof, I could see them being a perfect fit for a pair of small PC fans.

Re: Boat Ventilation

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. I appreciate all the input. I especially liked the idea of using PC fans, and may try that once I have a bit more experience with the electrical systems.

Re: Boat Ventilation

Due to the way the boat is configured, I can have the door to the forward cabin open or the door to the head open but not both at the same time. Given that I have a limited capacity for logic, my...

Re: Boat Ventilation

Should the air always flow bow to stern? The two passive vents in my boat are in the salon... (cowl vent behind the mast and vent in the companionway hatch) so my intent was to move air forward from...

Re: Boat Ventilation

Thanks everyone for your input on this. I have another question related to this....

As I said, I plan to put a solar vent in the forward cabin hatch to draw air through the boat from the two...

Re: CS36 Merlin Bimini/Dodger Configuration

Thanks for the input, guys. I suspected there wasn't much I could do about the bimini/dodger configuration and it appears that I'm unfortunately right. The boat does have a full enclosure I can use...

Re: Boat Ventilation

Thanks DR.

If I may ask, WHERE did you install the vent? Did you mount it on a hatch or on the coach roof itself?

I'm concerned that once I cut a hole in the roof, that's it.... but if I don't...

Boat Ventilation

Hi,

I recently purchased a 1989 CS36 Merlin. I've been working on it throughout the summer, fixing various problems and undoing some of the less desirable customization the previous owner had...

CS36 Merlin Bimini/Dodger Configuration

I'm a new owner of a 1989 CS36 Merlin.
I've seen a few different designs for custom bimini/dodger combinations on the Merlin. The design on our boat has a very narrow bimini and I was wondering if...

Re: CS36 Merlin Model Comparison

H Vasco,

She looks beautiful. May I ask why you replaced the Volvo engine? I've seen a 1990 model with the engine replaced as well. I haven't heard anything bad about the Volvo.

Do you have...

Re: CS36 Merlin Model Comparison

As soon as I have some, I'll share them.

In exchange, I'd be curious to know if you employed a de-naming/re-naming ceremony for your boat. It appeared to me in your photos as if the name of the...

Photo of the windlass taken during the boat tour attached.

Contract changes have been approved by owner. We'll be signing tonight.... aided by a few very dry martinis.

Ok, price settled with owner. A few minor changes to the contract and we'll probably sign over the weekend.

I'm trying hard to stay calm but failing miserably. Considering getting a t-shirt that...

Re: CS36 Merlin Model Comparison

Thanks for all this, David.
The '89 has the traveller placed right in front of the binnacle, which it appears to be where yours is now. The '90 model moved it to the coach roof.

Our boat (knock...

Is your model a wing keel? fin? bulb?

Filling the water tank too quickly? Really? Never heard of that.

Do you have a photo of how the traveller is set up? Are you happy with its new...

Funny you listed that one, rugosa.
We viewed it on the weekend and are making an offer this week.
If all goes well, this will be our new boat.
We are very nervous and excited at the same time.

Re: CS36 Merlin Model Comparison

I thought the same thing until I looked at them. The traveller in the 89 is in the cockpit, but in the 90 they moved it to the coach roof. Also, the companionway in the 89 is a ladder, but in the...
