Re: Painting Deck & Topside using Spray Machine

Just one more suggestion to definitely remove all your hardware. If not for the paint job, then for the fact that contrary to your feeling that you won't be able to get the stuff down as good as...

Re: Yanmar GM30 Hard to start

Not just advancing the throttle...full throttle. And as Faster said, be ready to pull it right back. Definitely helps in cool/cold starts.

Re: Buying sails on line or from a local shop

I'm one of them--bought a main for my previous boat from Dirk and was very happy with the fit and quality.

Re: Charging Woes

Well, that pretty much kills the rumor that the Moderators get special treatment here! :D Looks like btrayfors has succumbed to our incessant winter weather.

But really, don't we all at one time...

Why not? I guess it was someone else's dream at one time. Needs a new dreamer. :)

Re: Plasti Dip as a bottom paint

I don't get what advantage it would provide. Plasti Dip might protect against bumps or something, but boats don't need that kind of protection--what boats need is something on the bottom that...

Re: Yanmar 3GM oil line failure

Ordered the pipe and the washers from Niemec Marine. At $45 for the pipe, I'm pretty happy. Of course, I haven't started installing yet--I'm picturing a lot of scraped knuckles and cursing! :-)

Hmm... I did find some corrosion, a little to the right of the arrow. I'm tempted to replace just to avoid a nasty problem.

Re: Yanmar 3GM oil line failure

Is the red arrowed line the oil line we are talking about?

Re: Yanmar 3GM oil line failure

Thanks for the heads up on this, John! (and Andy for bringing it back to light!) I'll be checking that next time at the boat.

That's good news! That leap from discovery to practical production is a huge one.

Speed Sensor Thru Hull Jam

I recently "solved" a problem with my ST60 speed sensor, and I'd like opinions on whether I have a new problem to solve.

The original problem was that the speed wheel thru hull plug had been...

Re: First time Owner

Congratulations! It looks to be in nice shape inside. I have to say that the table lamps in the salon are a little unusual.

Spring will be here before you know it!

Re: How unsafe would this be for occasional heat?

So it looks like the consensus to "How unsafe is this?" is: Pretty darn unsafe!

I would go with tallswede's advice for a catalytic propane heater for occasional. We used a small one that takes...

Re: Ice damage

So it's not just water now, but water that's been there over three years and multiple NY winters. There isn't a pole long enough for me to poke at that one.

Re: Rolly Tasker Sails, Florida

I bought a new main for my previous boat from Rolly Tasker using Dirk in Florida and was very happy with it. You'll need to be sure of your measurements is all.

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

I *think* the rates may have gone up. It was $83 for the night with 30 amp for our 34 footer.

I've been there twice this year since the switch (the other a night back in June), and one thing...

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

We pretty much had all we could eat of that great wind from the past weekend. Two friends and I took off early Friday from Herring Bay on a 4-day cruise we had on the calendar for months. We were...

Re: Why do people still use depth sounders?

Obviously asked by someone who doesn't sail in the Chesapeake Bay! We sail where we sometimes have less than a foot under the keel. Depth sounder is less expensive than using the keel as a feeler :)...

Re: Catalina 34

The C34 was on my very short list when looking last year. The excellent owner support was a huge factor to me, although we ended up getting a Bene 331. Around here, the C34 seemed a little...

Re: Main sail can be difficult to raise

Forgive me for stating something so fundamental, but have you released the mainsheet before you raise the main? If not, you are fighting the boom. A guy I know (no names, please :o ) made this...

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

I'm pretty sure it was Granary. We had gone past Dividing and anchored maybe half way up. And just to make sure I just looked the area over on Google Earth. There's a house visible on the west...
