It appear as though the company that provides our Chat feature recently updated their software and now one of their modules is being 'mis-classified' by Norton/Symantec and possible containing a virus. Either have a teak grating or don't have a grating. Mahogany during Victorian times, was for furniture below decks. It is NOT suitable for grating. It will go black and it will rot. Don't do it....

Go with what has worked for the last several hundred years..to keep them as they are. In bad weather, there's nothing more secure than traditional "duck boards", (drop boards). Do not use hinges.

Assuming it is really dry, I would fill it with mass epoxy with the flight sanding fairing filler mixed into the epoxy.
