Re: Choosing the right metal

That looks like a P35 centerboard. Mine (and all the other ones I've seen) are in stainless. I'd replace in kind, and it will outlive you, most likely. Figure on doing it again in 30 years if you...

We installed a C-head brand dessicating toilet on our boat nearly one year ago. Our boat had overboard disharge only and we wished to become compliant with the laws, be more neighbourly when at...

Re: composting toilet-should we do it

Composting or dessicating...call it what you will...in my view the composting head is the way to go. I have been using my C-head for eight months. It beats my old throne and flushing piping and...

Re: composting toilet-should we do it

We switched to a composting head after 3 years, 100+ hours, and $3000+ dollars of trying to eliminate odors from our conventional holding tank system. We finally gave up. Our tank is only 18 gallons....

Re: composting toilet-should we do it

Seems to me there are real advantages of the desiccating head (It really does not compost in normal use) and few real disadvantages. Sure it takes some education, but a normal nautical head takes...

Re: composting toilet-should we do it

We had a composting head for the last three years of owning our previous boat. The premise of sailing around with a tank full of liquefied waste was never very appealing to us so we were delighted to...

Re: gps navigation

Well

I plane my routes on open CPN and export them in the gpx FORMAT to my handheld Garmin 72H

I can safely say at this point after 500 NM this summer everything between Northport and Greenport...

Re: Help I can't catch fish!

Re: whales, I have seen them once off my boat in 4 years of sailing here. If you want to see orca, go out with one of the whalewatching boats. If you are lucky enough to see them from your own...

Re: Conversion to oil as coolant?

Thanks Paul, but your statement above is at least not what it used to be with normal ethylene glycol. I am from N. Wisconsin (Eagle River) and a straight 50/50 is only good to 34 below 0 F and will...

Re: How Far Do You Heel...?

These are good answers... I don't "want" to heel excessivly, just wanted to get some numbers/data to back up my "guesstimations"..

Looks like (and felt like) 10*-12*-15* is the "range" to sail...
