Re: Working MD7A for sale

Yep the gauges work, I'm still trying to sell it whole (except for transmission). I'll PM you my email we can discuss further.

Re: 2YM15 Installed - Sound OK??

Thanks. On the fluid -- I put the specified amount of transmission oil in, the dipstick has no "high" mark on it but definitely filled above the "low" mark.

2YM15 Installed - Sound OK??

I just installed a new 2YM15, it seems to be running fine although the transmission makes a fairly loud high pitched "whine" sound (kinda sounds like a jet engine to me) when in forward. I have no...

Re: Need help: Volvo-Penta MD7A Maintenance for Dummies

Re: Crack in front of encapsulated keel

Alrighty, a little more info, I think the crack on the inside of the boat is a separate thing. Looks like some resin pooled at that spot when they laid up the boat, and this resin pool cracked. But...

Re: Crack in front of encapsulated keel

Thanks for the replies. I have owned this boat since 2008, survey didn't turn up any of this. The glass sounds solid in the area hitting it with a hammer. I hit a sunken boat a few years ago but...

Re: Does the prop shaft need to touch the back of the transmission?

Thanks for the responses. To follow up, I took my new shaft and coupling to a good prop shop and they said the shaft diameter was undersized by .003 which was enough to make the coupling loose and...

Crack in front of encapsulated keel

Walking around the boat today I noticed a crack at the front of my encapsulated keel. I have never seen this crack before, not sure what happened here ... my boat has been on the "hard" for about 9...

Re: Working MD7A for sale

Transmission has been sold. The rest of engine is still for sale. I now have a crate (from new yanmar) that I could probably re-use to ship this engine to somebody.

Re: Does the prop shaft need to touch the back of the transmission?

OK - so I really need a machine shop to true up this stuff? This is only a 14hp engine, coupling and shaft are new. The coupling slips over the shaft fairly easily, it's a good fit but I didn't...

Does the prop shaft need to touch the back of the transmission?

I'm installing a new engine, prop shaft and coupling. I've never done this before, and I don't know if the prop shaft is supposed to be pushed far enough through the coupling to touch the back of...

Working MD7A for sale

I just pulled this engine out of a 1980 30' S2 -- it's a Volvo MD7A 13hp with transmission. It was working when I removed it. Produced plenty of power however it smokes a fair amount (grey smoke -...

Every time I have smelled diesel in my engine compartment, there has been a fuel leak somewhere. Check around all the fuel line connections, fuel pump, around injectors, etc.

I hear ya. The thing is if I was just going to putz around the bays here in Puget Sound, for sure I would run this engine into the ground. But I go further up into British Columbia where there...

What is an old (still running) diesel worth??

I'm considering replacing my 1980 MD7A (13hp) in a couple months, anybody know what kind of money I could expect to get for this guy?? It still runs, just smokes a lot and I think the cooling...

Good to know it's probably not a drivetrain issue. On the muffler -- do they have baffles? I was under the impression they were just empty inside and were fairly foolproof. I could take the hoses...
