Re: Wtf?

Right now, I have the sidebar ad that says "seeking mature men only". I guess that counts me out! Oh wait a minute....I am old...guess I'm in.

Re: Exhaust Riser, Can I do this?

Here is a picture of black iron fittings that I found and put together today.
The fittings are not threaded in all the way and I will be cutting off the threaded end of the nipple under the tee to...

Re: Exhaust Riser, Can I do this?

I guess black iron is the way to go. I was just reading that galv steel is a nogo for exhaust as it can produce toxic fumes....don't know if that is true but it sounds logical.

I have to start...

Exhaust Riser, Can I do this?

My exhaust riser is toast. I have a Universal M30 diesel (3cyl/24hp).
My intentions are to fabricate a new riser using pipe nipples and fittings.
I already ordered a new flange and gasket that...

Re: WOW...another crazy law suit

I know your right Minn. This incident really got to me though. Had the worst happened, it would have left a lasting impression in my mind. I don't think I would have slept well for a while.
Anyhow,...

Re: WOW...another crazy law suit

This whole story just makes me mad and I don't get mad very easily.
Shame on him for carrying around a hot shore power cable and shame on the company for not finding out if he knew what he was...

Re: Hurricane Anchoring - Why not this way?

I know that rubber lined fire hose will generate a lot of heat as the line cannot be cooled by the rain water.
You can use denim (its tough stuff). I have cut up blue jeans and used for chafe...

Re: Cleaning the head

Just don't use the vinegar and baking soda at the same time. You might be cleaning up the inside of your boat for a long time if it blows up:laugher

I run the vinegar through as mentioned above...

Re: Does anyone fit the bill here for being on this Documentary?

Finally, a reality show that I might actually tune into. Although I'm sure the reality would be "produced" and it would still be full of crap but it could still be pretty interesting.

Re: Forget about shipping containers, watch out for rocks!

The yacht 'Maiken' was traveling in the south Pacific when the crew came across a weird sight.

Re: S2 9.2c - for liveaboard - thoughts?

We used to charter one of these for the weekend a few years back before owning our own.
It was a fun boat to sail and comfortable with the aft berth.
One thing I remember well is that the holding...

Re: Let's talk about anchors some more

I like big chain and I cannot lie
You other sailors can't deny
When a boat drags down, really makes me frown
Makes me want to scream and shout
I like big chain

Capt A, I would anchor down...

Re: mast breaks while docked.

Possibly aeroelastic flutter or harmonic resonance. Remember the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
I have heard of that happening before but have no first hand knowledge.

Re: Fish Stories

Here is a Redfish I caught back in my powerboat days. Got it on a bait caster reel with 12lb test. It took 30 minutes to land. I gave him a big kiss and put him back in the water.

Re: Sailed singlehanded for the first time yesterday.

As mentioned, go slow. Go as slow as you can and maintain steerage. I go bow in first with the pier finger on port. When I give a shot of reverse thrust, prop walk pulls me to the dock and stops the...

Re: Portable Air Conditioning Unit

That is true...portable units want to pull hot air in to replace the air blown out by the exhaust vent.
For this reason, I make sure all vents, ports, and hatches are closed that are forward of the...

Re: Portable Air Conditioning Unit

I went from a 6000btu window unit in the companionway to a portable unit. It got old climbing over the window unit and moving it to go sailing. It cooled about the same as our current 8000btu...

Re: New guy with dumb questions.

1982 34 ODay here and the hull is strong. Don't be as concerned about the age of a solid fiberglass hull but be more concerned about previous owners maintenance.
Well maintained hulls on good old...

This prompted a...

Seabrook Marina has a full service yard. I am not sure about the do it yourself regulations at this yard. I think DIY yards are not very plentiful around here.
Hopefully some one else may be able...

My bow is usually facing into the wind at anchor...haven't you learned not to do that by now?

Re: Living aboard and battery charging

Thanks Maine...looks like the ProMariner Pronautic 1215 or 1220 will be what I go with.
Do you think the 15a will be OK or should I go with the 20a? I like the idea of running the 12v items with...
