Re: Sailboat perishes off Hatteras, USCG rescues crew

A little late to the party here, but imagine my surprise to see one of the guys in the article, and he looks incredibly familiar. Sure enough, we crossed paths in Annapolis this summer. I was...

Re: 19 7/16 X 19 7/16 Bomar 100 replacement options

Hatch in the head is a great idea. Only place on the boat that mildews, even though she's swinging to a mooring full time.

Re: crealock34 fuel lift pump

Hi there, isn't the pump supposed to be on the other side of the Racor, pulling it through there? This just from memory. Reading this thread, it seems that the 34, or perhaps the 3HM35F requires a...

Hi there, we have two group 31 FDC's paralleled, with an echo charge connected to a Group 27 start battery. These are stored in a battery box in the port cockpit locker. Charging is via a Kyocera...

Re: Autopilot PS 34

Raymarine X5 wheel pilot, works pretty well. John is right though, it is noisy sometimes. Kept a course reasonably well this summer on a downwind run on Chesapeake. Buoy data confirmed winds above...

Re: One Year Report

Great post! I'm looking forward to the tiller conversion one day, I think it will be a better approach for voyaging.

Surfed down the Chesapeake the other week, with winds gusting to 33 knots...

checklist

So true when things get crazy. Wrapping the prop eliminates one good option and can be a nightmare - especially if one feels compelled to clear it in a seaway. Good item to add to the checklist!

Re: Thunderstorm in Chesapeake Bay

Hi there, I try to do most of my traveling from early morning to mid afternoon when possible, to avoind the ubiquitous afternoon tstorms. I'd much rather ride out a storm at anchor -- you don't have...

Re: Transient Slip in Norfolk

I stayed at Tidewater on my trip to Chesapeake a couple of years ago. I know there was a mexican restaurant, a locally owned restaurant and I forget what else. As far as walking distance, not a...

siting inverter and HF tuner on PSC 34

Hi there, looking for any ideas on where to site either of these things. I was leaning towards installing the inverter under the chart table, but after chasing it through, it's 12'+ cable run.

mooring

Hi Rob, I set my own mooring in deep mud. I used a chinese made mushroom, but Acco chain and Crosby shackles. The eye on the anchor is so beefy that it is unlikely a boat of your tonnage(or...

Thanks for the tip on the gig harbor and Honda OB. I said my dink was a roll up, but it does have a high pressure floor. It's a west marine deal I paid less than $1000 for and weighs around fifty...

great discussion

Thanks for the first hand accounts! Techniques like falling off to prevent hobby-horsing, and driving the boat in subsiding winds with big seas are helpful to me.

Anyone use a trysail?
