Re: Sequence for offer/buying

Arv - that makes a lot of sense. Thanks.

The boat was surveyed in November and did well. The surveyor estimated that it is worth a $5,000 more than the asking price. Everytime we speak with the...

Re: Sequence for offer/buying

I appreciate the posts and I understand that I have to do as much work as possible prior to an offer to anticipate possible problems. My biggest concern is the standing rigging. In S. FL I...

Re: Sequence for offer/buying

The gist of the question was really about the steps involved in the purchase - not determining the opening bid.

Sequence for offer/buying

When I find the boat that I'm interested in making an offer on;

I make the offer (about 80% of asking price) contingent on survey and sea trial.

I pay for the surveyor, haul out, rigger to...

Re: Thoughts on this one?

The owner lives in California and supposedly wants a smaller power boat to "scale down". Who knows about the smaller boat part - I believe that he is on the other side of the country paying for a...

Re: Thoughts on this one?

I appreciate the thoughts and comments to date. The broker responded to the questions I asked with the following:

Re: cruiser/racer

Thanks Barquito,

No real draft concerns. It would be moored in the inter coastal less than a mile from the inlet to the ocean. I have an old sailboat now (1974 O'Day) and although I really...

cruiser/racer

Hi,

I'm looking for a boat that can raced as well as used for cruising with my wife. The length should be in the mid thirties and the price around $50,000. Any opinions are appreciated.

Replace Sails

Please forgive the dumb question - but how do I replace a sail? Is the only way to give the dimensions to a sail maker and have a new one made? Is there a used sail market? I have a 1972 O'Day and...

By revising the tacking method I assume that you mean either let the jib slowly cross over the center line of the boat or wait until it is backwinded and have it pulled more quickly to avoid the...

Re: Jib catches while tacking

I've included a picture of where it is catching. It hooks on a rung on the shrouds. I think a roller furler may do the trick?
