Re: Mast raising / lowering system for the 23

Thanks for the information Southern Spirit.

Although I am not sure how to use a rescue 8 nor have one at present, I think that you are attaching the halyards to it and it is attached to a D ring...

Re: whats new on your north american (spirit) sailboat

I use mine as a teaching boat and often have students sail up to the gas docks for practice. Its a great confidence builder. In and out of the marina under sail to show them it can be done and not...

Re: whats new on your north american (spirit) sailboat

I gave up and replaced my Mercury 7.5 electric start with a MinnKota 55# thrust trolling motor. Installed a 12W solar panel and dual battery controller.

Never looked back. Very quiet and...

Re: Folding Berth Insert Option

If it would help, my 23K has a folding cushion set. It is hinged and I believe it goes between the side berths. I have never used it. This might be what you are looking for. Want a picture?

Re: replacing the interior cabin sides and shelf fabric?

I still need to scrap all of the foam backing off before installing the new fabric. Will probably use foam backed vinyl. I had not considered using FRP panels. This would work. Is there any...

Re: Dry rot in starboard bulkhead

I also thought about those options, but ended up using a high end oak cabinet grade plywood. Plenty of strength and easy to find. My logic was that if I keep the wood dry the more expensive okume...

Re: replacing the interior cabin sides and shelf fabric?

You are right about the carpet. I was being delicate. It was an off-white carpet with a foam backing glued in place. I might smooth with filler before painting and leave the carpet off.

Re: Dry rot in starboard bulkhead

You were right. The port bulkhead is showing signs of distress. A sharp awl test indicates spongy wood benieth the veneer. It would not be so bad to have to replace it except that it is 108 here. ...

Dry rot in starboard bulkhead

Kept noticing that my shrouds were loosening even with split rings in the turnbuckles. Found that the starboard bulkhead had dry rot around and under the bulkhead mounting plates. This allowed for...

Re: so whats the least amount of wind you have sailed a spirit in?

I often go out in winds 5kts through 15kts, but prefer 7 and above. Less than 5 or over 20kts is not worth it. I sail a 23K.
