Re: VSC saved me from CG boarding

My solution to this problem was to buy a boat named "Semper Paratus" from a retired Coastie, with the name emblazoned in big letters on each side. Always gets a big wave as they go by.

Re: Walk-through transom for under $45K?

I just bought a hunter Legend 37 for much the same reason. The Legend series boats sail well, have lots of family space and a walk thru. The 37 is going to push that price range, but you might want...

Re: New Head Sail

If your boat is the 1968 Cal in your signature I'm guessing it was designed to carry a much bigger genoa.

Re: South Coast 22

My boat was a 1976, hull #1442. Was a great little boat and is still being sailed by the guy I sold it to 10 years ago.

Re: Beneteau First 310

Great comments, and pretty much the same decision I had come to. Thanks.

Re: Warning about cruising the ICW

So you are saying a prudent navigator should actually use the aids to navigation and not rely on a graphic animation to choose their course!?

That's not really setting the bar very high!

Re: Beneteau First 310

That is the phrf difference. I'm curious if the actual performance is more or less than that. Is the shoal draft version harder or easier to sail to its numbers?

Just once in my life I want to own...

Re: Buying a Canuck...?

Definitely a sailboat! Lesson learned on the +€>~\%#}ing power boats.

It's a little too late in the year for the transfer to happen. Would have to figure out how to do it and then launch the boat...

Beneteau First 310

Ok, I've found a early 90's 310 that seems to check a lot of the box in what I'm looking for and has amenities my wife wants. Problem is that it has the shoal draft keel, 4' 3" in stead of standard...

Re: Buying a Canuck...?

Thanks! This boat is a private listing w/o broker (bad news) Good news is that its in Windsor, ON so port entry should be right across the river in Detroit. Could sail it home from there.

Re: Buying a Canuck...?

Looking at the US Customs site seems to indicate there would be a 1.5% duty and it appears there is a form that needs to be filled out declaring the engine meets EPA guidelines.

Buying a Canuck...?

Does anyone have experience buying a boat in Canada and importing it to the US? Extra taxes/fees? Paperwork?

Re: Worlds best anchor

It reads much more like an infomercial disguised as a post about anchor size.

Re: A 60 foot sailboat for $2,600 found on Craigslist

Re: First 35

Yeah, I agree. The only saving grace is that I raced on sailchick's boat all summer and saw that it can be fixed (and look good).

The First 35 has a phrf of 120

Re: First 35

I have found one and was able to climb into the V berth. It was plenty long enough for me (6' nothin), but didn't leave enough leg room for a second person. The 2 aft cabins seem quite a bit bigger...
