Re: Just Go!

I guess this thread was geared toward people with boats already, but waiting until they think they have the perfect boat. I've said it before, but all you really need is a safe boat, below the...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

I'm running tapered sheets lead up to the cabin top winches.

Starting from the sail the sheet goes through:
- the twinger/tweaker which is lead to max beam on the boat at the toe rail.
- The...

Re: Removing/Cleaning/Replacing DataMarine Transducer

Christian

By 'display' I was referring to the actual LCD module itself, not the entire display head. The module is around $60US, I've ordered a couple of them over the years from Signet in...

Jekyll Island,Ga

Spending some time on Jeykll by cruising the multitude of bicycle trails scattered on the island and enjoying the fresh caught shrimp. Two marinas here do offer some nice amenities to cruisers...

Re: Any way to check keel bolts?

I think the question of quality of build is off base
as a previous owner of an early 70's columbia ... they were built like tanks
i still think the OP should refer this question to the columbia...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

This is the same part that broke. Mine are stainless straps that fatigued with age and use. Easy fix but we had to retire from racing. Luckily it wasn't blowing very hard.

Re: Brunswick Landing Marina,Ga.

No other marinas. We did anchor out a few times. One good anchorage is off St. Simon Island, near Morningstar Marina. Quite a tide runs there.

Another quite nice anchorage we found, was off the...

Re: Brunswick Landing Marina,Ga.

The Cruisers iNet, The Water Way Radio and Cruisers Net as well as our 'specific boat' forum has been more than helpful in providing quality as well as quantity info concerning specific requests.

Re: Water vs Gas

How much beer can this boat store? Best you remove the holding tank for the more important things while cruising.

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

I have a 3350 MORC section. I looked at that tuning guide and I think it's a little high. In San Fran it's windy and I think that works fine, but on the bay you need a little more give. And I use a...

I am by NO MEANs an expert parent, but lemme tell you my only experience.

Re: Water vs Gas

There are occasionally plenty of "used" Survivor 35 kits available if you look on ebay. They are larger manual units and seem to be unused surplus. Although older models, they are completely...

Re: Some people's children...

For those attempting to keep a tally:

Gary was vague about whether he desired the green coconut margarita or his Barbie-like companion to be "bottoms up".

Chistian is without his trousers,...

Re: The best licenses to work on a yacht and quick start your career

I have just mailed off to renew my 100-ton license for another 5 years (by which time I'll be 70! several 'outside consults" needed to fill out the Medical form).

Maybe the US is behind the times,...

Re: Rolly Tasker Sails, Florida

Lots of threads on this subject.
I've bought two sails from them, rf staysail and a rf genoa, both are excellent (offshore). A lot of people are scared off by the low prices and feel that having...

Re: East Coast Marinas - need no frills just less expensive?

Go a bit past Oriental to New Bern, 'bout as cheap of rates as you'll find, with a number of marina's to choose from.

I don't get the point of debating whether these guys should be banned, unless you are in the crowd that writes the $25 million check to send them around the world. If that crowd doesn't trust these...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

My mainsheet setup is the same as the factor 4:1 with a 2:1 traveler. No reason to change it for me. I did increase the backstay purchase to 24:1 and run it up to the traveler. Works great while...
