Re: Derelict Catalina22 value? (bottom feeding content)

Make sure you can get the title. I know that in Florida a boat without a title is unsaleable.

Re: 50' Motor Cruiser, powered by 2 6hp outboards.

I'm not an engineer or a marine architect, but I think some of you are bashing the OP a little too much. His design could be leading edge or over the edge, but who knows if it might not be the spark...

Re: Bristol 32 needs work or Endeavor 32 work done

I will 2nd the plug for the Endeavour 32. Over the past 40 years I have owed a many different brands of sailboats from 24' to 39', and all have had +s' and -s'. I've owned an Endeavour 32, for...

Re: Bayview Mac Race recap

Nice report of a great race! It sure brings back memories. I sailed on GRAND SLAM, a C&C 35 back in the late 80's. We won our class 3 years straight.

Re: Is it a crazy thought?

Nice boat and it sounds like a great trip, but I am confused, are you talking about single handing from NYC to Lake Champlain? That is over 300 miles and the mast will have to be unstepped and...

Re: refurbishing wooden oars

Perfect timing for this thread. I just bought a pair of wooden oars on Craigslist for $19 to use on my dinghy. They are old and cracked, and beat up, and there are traces of at least 4 paint...

Re: Defend Defender!

I am not defending Defender or any other marine retailer, but, I think it's asking the impossible for a retailer who has thousands of items in inventory to be an expert at everything. I feel the...

Re: USCG Documentation Fee Question

It is amazing that when you call a real person answers on the 2nd or 3rd ring. BUT it can still take 3 months (or more) to get your papers back, and if you don't dot an I or cross a T, you will go...

Re: PFD with harness

Maybe my point should be that the combintion of a harness and a Pfd, regular or inflatable, may not be the best option.

Re: PFD with harness

1. Boat capsizes

2. Tether holds them to the boat

3. Pfd inflates and and forces them into the bottom of boat

4. They can't release from tether

5. They drown

Re: PFD with harness

In the 2011 Chicago to Mackinac race 2 sailors were killed when the boat Wingnuts capsized in a storm. They were trapped under the boat and died of head injuries and drowning when they were unable...

Re: Cam or Clam Cleats, re: Jib sheets

I used the open type clam cleat for racing and cruising for many years and always liked them. Be sure they are sized right for your sheets, and they have a fair lead from the winch. They are fast...

Re: Sparkman & Stephens trivia game

I remember the game, but I don't remember playing it. The price tag on the box says $1.99, so you got a great deal. My guess is that the more wine that is consumed, the more fun this game will be!

Re: Canada to USCG Documentation...What's the process???

Be aware that the USCG documentation process can take almost 3 months to complete, and if there are any problems with the paperwork your application goes to the bottom of the pile for processing. ...

Re: Trip S Florida to Galveston Bay

The rail bridge at Port Mayaca on the Okeechobee Waterway has a fixed vertical clearance of plus or minus 49 feet, so this might decide which route you take, depending on your mast height. Either...

Re: Perkins 4.236 low RPM

Don't forget to make sure the prop is clean and straight. A fouled prop can cut RPM's and speed way back. Of course this doesn't explain why you can only get 1500 RPM with no load.

Re: Bounty captain Robin Walbridge's 'reckless decision' blamed for sinking

Re: Starting weeknight races for the first time.

I don't know what the rules are where you are going to race, but where I am, single handing is not allowed in our races. Plus, you will learn a lot with an experienced crew on board.
