Re: And here I thought Murphy owned 2 boats!

My own footnote to Murphy;

Given several possible outcomes; the most likely outcome will also be the most annoying one.

Re: Greatest fear?

Not MY fear , but the biggest fear ON my boat is my wife's fear of capsizing as the boat heels over.

As for my own nightmare, years ago I very stupidly came out of the Norwalk Islands into 8'...

Re: catalina 22 swing keel

I'm just also nervous about breaking a bolt. Those 3/8" bolts can only be torqued to 10-15 foot lbs. Hence the marine locktite. I want to carefully inspect before I start taking it apart.

You...

Re: Just Go!

Yep. We get the leftovers. For the price of a cheap car you can have a yacht that is sound and serviceable. Our grandfathers didn't have huge numbers of dirt cheap 40 foot fiberglass sailboats...

Re: catalina 22 swing keel

Exactly, its not the amount of movement, it's the amount of wear. This isn't the main bearing on a 350 Chevy. Is there enough metal holding the keel in place? I'm a shade tree mechanic for many...

Re: catalina 22 swing keel

It should move a little. Catalina has come out with a bushing kit which eliminates most movement.Stops the clunk. Depends on if your boat has been fitted with that kit or not. The older ones...

Re: Just Go!

It is really a money problem for most people and these are bad economic times. I think that is the 800 lb gorilla that wrecks most dreams of cruising.

From the pictures on their blog Katie and...

Re: Just Go!

No - directed at the OP ....a retired teacher. I assume with a pension. If so - he didn't just go. He got his ducks lined up first. But thanks for your reply.

Re: Cal 27 deal of the century or total lemon...

First of all -is that Goldie Hawn pic legit????? Wow.

Second, although it does look good, when you go look at it think about the $3000 for summer dockage. Same rate as a brand new boat.

Re: Where Do I Go From Here

Why don't you just pay a yard to repair the 3' rotted section? Then (if you want to sell) the buyers surveyor will pick it up,or you disclose it and the buyer makes up their own mind and hopefully...

Re: Docking in a crosswind

And then go for reverse thrust!

Re: How do I start my sailing adventures.

With 3 young guys you have the physical strength to set up and take down a 22 foot trailer sailor without breaking a sweat. They are cheap and you even have room for girls. By bringing it home you...

Re: Money idea for someone with a boat?

AirBnB already has plenty of boats on it. Most in tropical locations.

In my internet trolling I came upon many in Florida.

Personally I wouldn't do it - spending days on a sailboat that I...

Re: Any seaworthy swing keel, row-able boats, with cabin.

Just put oar locks on a Catalina 22. Give yourself a board to sit on while rowing. I bet if the conditions are right you could make at least 100 yards. Maybe 200.
