Re: Another towing dingie newb question

I tow a RIB with a 15hp on it and your drag comments are interesting. When going slow at 4-5kts, the drag is tremendous on the painter. At around 6kts and above my dinghy planes and the drag is...

Re: Freedom 39 Express

The pilot house version looks nice online, I've never seen one in person. I finally worked my way through most of the issues related to the OP. Recently I really have been enjoying the boat. I need...

Re: Sleeping preference?

A good suggestion and one I've already tried. They aren't really getting any breaks on foam apparently and have to pay a tax since it's for resale (a tax I don't have to pay). By the time they add...

Re: Sleeping preference?

Yes they do. Unfortunately there's no UPS ground so you are paying for air. UPS and FedEx consider the USVIs an International destination and because of proximity to the continental US charge it as...

Re: Sleeping preference?

Does anybody have a good source for foam that will ship through the USPS? Overstock won't ship to the USVI, period. They will ship to a bunch of International locations, but not here. The Foam...

Re: Cost of cruising the U.S and British Virgin Islands

All good points. The $30/night moorings are in the BVI. There are very few moorings to rent legally in the USVI. The 30 day max stay in the BVI is easy enough to reset for US citizens by simply...

Re: Cost of cruising the U.S and British Virgin Islands

Perhaps you'd feel more lucky on your bayliner if you had it insured. :D

You might try and solicit others on traveltalkonline dot com forums as well. Enjoy your trip.

Re: 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

Hello, I'd like to introduce myself as the craziest person alive!!!! Call Guiness and the TV stations, I want to milk my 15 minutes of fame.

I've bought two boats and didn't get a survey or haul...

Re: BVI charter cost is cheep!!! for the Jenanneau 36I

Yes the races will be done by then. I was just joking around. We actually used a charter boat to our advantage a couple of years ago while racing. Enjoy your trip.

Re: Ice in my bilge

I would launch the boat and sail south until it melts naturally. Then I would never go north where that could happen again...

Re: Stern to docking with swim platform?

The charter company I work for has a Hunter E36 with the drop down swim platform. All of our boats are parked stern to. The platform is always up at the dock. We step from the top of the platform...

Re: Beware of VIP Yacht Charters

I had trouble until I cut and pasted and then went back and added the needed dots and slashes, worked fine my second try.

Re: BVI charter cost is cheep!!! for the Jenanneau 36I

As others have mentioned, the food budget is far too low. Moorings are $30 a night, anchoring is free. The wind will blow from an easterly direction. The tide will be less than a foot. The BVI...

Re: anchor and boat design ? Why anchor the bow.

I agree with chuck53. How fun would it be to be stern anchored and have your boom flopping back and forth catching the wind like a gybe? Many coastal cruising boats have forward opening hatches,...

Re: Beware of VIP Yacht Charters

I think that is the last monohull they have in the fleet that's available for charter. A couple of years ago an employee told me they were migrating from sail to power boats.

Re: BVI Yacht Charters - good company?

I'm always suspicious of a first post being an endorsement of a commercial product or service especially when responding to a thread that is over a year old. Then afterwards not checking back in or...

Re: Experience required to bareboat?

More than half of the restroom visits could be handled while swimming, snorkeling and "cruiser showering". Just sayin'

At 7kts it should take less than 30 minutes to be 3 miles off shore...

Re: Are the charter prices based per person

Be sure and read all the fine print on the charter company's website. There will be additional DRA fees for the hull of the boat you are on and probably the dinghy as well. I would also be upfront...

Re: Favorite Boat Shoe???

Barefeet 99% of the time. When racing I wear Vibram 5 fingers. Incredible grip wet or dry!!! My daily footwear is a pair of Keen Waimeas whether on land or jumping on and off charter boats at work.
