Re: Who should pay?

The boat that created the wake is at fault regardless of rafting.
That being said if you didn't report the incident to the coast guard you are SOL.
Have a friend who's boat suffered substantial...

Re: Adventures with a Lewmar Concept windlass

All you need to do is use a bow cleat. No reason it needs to be between the windlass and bow roller.

Re: Downwind Sailing

A better comparison is identical boats w/ identical sails. 20 years ago we had a hunter 375 and went to several rendezvous. All canvas. The boats that went DDW always spanked the boats that played...

Re: Downwind Sailing

I would say you are incorrect. If a course is set up as a true windward lewward DDW wins every time. Government mark courses and all bets are off. Raced in many canvas classes over the last 60 years...

Re: ticking sound in great salt pond

Mantus shrimp are very common from rhode island to cape cod. My friend has a oyster farm at Pt Judith and has traps for the shrimp. They can smash a clam or oyster. Search youtube for some videos....

Re: Adventures with a Lewmar Concept windlass

The gypsy should easily slip back onto the shaft. If you have to beat it w/ a hammer more damage was done than just the key way. Beating on it has probably made the problem worse. The windlass shaft...

Re: CS 36 Merlin

My previous 36t, very different from the Merlin, would track higher on the gps when we cracked off a bit.

Re: CS 36 Merlin

I think 10 -11 kts is a little light to be trying to get inside of 100 degrees. While we can sail at that wind speed our cs doesn't come alive til we get a solid 12. We have a wing keel and can...

Re: Remove embedded carriage bolts, then my strut, on the water?

Having just replaced my strut in June I know what your up against. No way this can be done in the water. You are flirting w/ disaster.

Re: Volvo Penta MD6b Cold Start System

Within 5 - 10 secs. of turning over the motor should be running.

Re: Volvo Penta MD6b Cold Start System

Please read carefully.
You are not pumping the lift pump. You are pulling out the engine stop control to the stop position and pushing it back in to the run position.

Re: Volvo Engines

Couple things on the 2003t.
They have a potential problem w/ the spline on the trany shaft into the fly wheel. If the motor was slammed into reverse a lot, think launch, the fly wheel gets stripped....

Re: Volvo Engines

Which model volvo. I have a 2003T. Never had a problem finding parts w/ some effort at times. There is an on line volvo parts store. Parts can be pricy.

Re: Volvo Penta MD6b Cold Start System

According to my engine manual the cold start set on my volvo 2003t is pull out the engine stop and push back in. This actuates a cam in the governor and kind of acts like a choke. Then set throttle...

Re: Two weeks in Block/Narragansett Bay

If...

Re: Two weeks in Block/Narragansett Bay

You are missing out.
If you had an over night anchor you could anchor in the inner harbor at Pt Judith instead of sailing up wind all the way back to block. Not talking about the harbor of refuge at...

Re: Around Long Island Regatta (ALIR)

Anticipate the winds in Gardners bay to be blowing harder than at Montauk and in the sound. If you have a smart phone get the bouy data app and ship finder. Takes the mystery out of whats ahead.

We switched to a larger Delta from a CQR on the previous boat. Any time it blew over 25 we started dragging. Never had this problem before.
Loose the DELTA. If the Mantus won't fit...
