Re: Tiller or Wheel for Solo?

I love tillers but on a blue water 35+' boat I think a wheel will serve you better

Re: Boat Sitting - Is it really an outrageous proposition?

I think there's a market, especially for people that may leave their boats in the islands for a few months or even weeks while they fly home to attend to business. Heck, maybe even Florida, the Keys,...

Re: Help me find my boat please.

Don't let being in AZ stop you, there are over a 100 sailboats at Lake Pleasant and a sailing school where you can get ASA 101 and 103 certified and rent Catalina 22's and 25's to your hearts...

Re: Taking my ASA101 and 103 at once

taking the classes the way you are planning is a waste, I'm pretty sure ASA recommends 40-50 hours of sailing before taking 103.

The best way is to take ASA 101, find a spot to rent 18 or 22'...

Re: Sailing lessons

why would anyone use you for crew, you have no idea about anything, no idea on terminology, etc.

Take the 101, it's a few hundred dollars, at least someone can then feel like you have some...

Re: Making an offer for a sailboat

[QUOTE=davidpm;1930554]

I think that the very best value is often the most expensive boat.

Well said, people that buy a project have no idea what a bottom job, new sails, new line,...

Re: Sailing lessons

I took ASA 101 & 103 having never prior being on a sailboat, it taught me everything I know. It also got me 50% off rentals on my home lake. Since the instructor was at that lake he signed my log...

Re: anchor tips to get it to catch?

I'm shocked everyone keeps enabling these two when they have no idea what they are doing, with a baby on-board no less.

The single most important thing when anchoring, IMHO, is the bottom you are...

Re: Boat sale and SELLER finance issues?

I love how people respond when they clearly have not read the OP's original post... and the people that say get a lawyer :laugher

There one and only one thing to do

Re: Standing Rigging tight enough?

IDK, that seems pretty loose to me, on my C22 we went 25 on the fore shrouds and 16 on the two aft shrouds. We have pretty light winds at my inland lake in Arizona.

I know every boat is different...

Re: Mirage 29? Could this be the ticket?

You should post some pictures, but I would start at $10k or less. there are 3 Catalina 30's on my lake, in the water and ready to sail, for less than $11,000..

Does the motor run, bottom paint,...

Re: good faith money

There are no long lines at boats with people waiting to buy them.... Putting a boat on "hold" is silly. It'll be there this weekend and/or next weekend and probably the weekend after that too....

I was far from perfect and in fact knew nothing..... but you know what I took ASA 101 and 103 and then only went out on my own boat with an instructor at least 6 times in different sailing condition...

Re: Jib Sheet Diameter

5/8th's is way to big/heavy in light air you will not even get it across the deck. I'd just bought some too and found 7/16th's as a good compromise between feeling good in the hands and light enough...

Re: 87 Catalina 22

As a 1988 C22 owner I think the boat is well priced if everything as he says it is like the newer battery, cushions, sails, trailer and outboard.

If you need to re-do all the moving parts of the...
