Re. license: In the worst case you apply for a croatian one. You will pass an exam (about 10 min some questions by a friendly croatian captain) , pay some Kuna/Euro/Dollars and you will get it.

X vs. Grand Soleil, which one to buy?

Going to buy a boat, boiled down to X-40 /43 or Grand Soleil 40 (B&C) /43.
I like the steel frames. Sailing area French Atlantic coast.
