Re: Paragon's North Atlantic Adventure

Hi Drake,

Great stuff as always. I love the footage.

Couple of thoughts; I wouldn't overdo the cross dissolves. Part of what makes your videos so engaging is watching the thought process, sans...

Stern to docking with swim platform?

Looking at a Sailtime membership with a new Hunter with drop down swim platform. I have previously docked an H33 and H36 stern to with the small drop seat, but I was wondering how that works with a...

Re: " All Is Lost" movie

Just saw it. It struck me as being done on the cheap actually. If a tv show like the Deadliest Catch can give you shots of boats in the Bering Sea, you would think a Hollywood movie could at least do...

Re: Learning to dock shorthanded

Boat is a 2006, Hunter 36 for reference to my question.

It may sound like a simple question, but where should spring lines be placed when backing in? I wonder if it will work at all, given that...

Re: Fishing

In light wind days, we'll troll for salmon and trout in Lake Ontario. I use a 10' trolling rod with a dipsy diver that gets the lure down to about 70 feet. The hard part is keeping the boat around...

Re: All is Lost

I think they chose S.O.S over Mayday was because the non boating public probably thinks Mayday is strictly used for Airplane emergencies.

Re: "Paying" friends wanting to go on the boat.

If the boat is clean, operable and reliable, you may be able to sell 2 or 3 seasonal shares for it.

Story of man lost on Lake ontario.

2013 Lake Ontario 300 Yacht Race (LO300) - Aboard Black Diamond (http://www.sailboatcruise.ca/2013/07/20/2013-lake-ontario-300-yacht-race-lo300/)

About half way down. Very sad.

Re: The danger of GPS as the sole means of navigation.

My iPhone is a whole lot easier to understand than my chartplotter, which I have given up on.

I would love to know how to use paper charts better, but I don't believe there is any formal teaching...

Re: Mutiny at Dawn - Transpac Race 2013

So Garr sued the owners for 6 million? I'm confused.

Re: Coast Guard rescues 4 "sailors" off Charleston...

[QUOTE=smackdaddy;1044337]

Remember Fastnet? Those were some very experienced sailors (a whole bunch of them) who got off floating boats due to unpleasantness.

I don't begrudge anyone...

Re: Emergency leak repair

One handed bar clamps. Most are reversible to function as spreaders, so you can apply pressure against a repair, assuming you have an opposing structure to brace against. 12' to 50"

If you don't...

Re: No Sea Trial

I guess I was thinking more in lines of a private seller. Usually a time that is convenient to them can be arranged. Sort of a "let me know when your down at the boat next and I will make it work"...

Re: No Sea Trial

You must be able to learn something from a sea trial. I have no problem compensating someone for their time if I request a sea trial. I would think $200 would be appropriate for an hour on the water....

Re: Feeling Foolish and Discouraged!

It says a macerator is being installed. Is that necessary on the Great Lakes?

Re: Admiral needs warm sailing boots

I have 15 year old Sorels. They are pretty great, but they do leave black marks everywhere. The rubber soles are made soft to increase traction in winter, and they do that very, very well. But they...

Re: Production boats- justified bias?

I would do what lots of people apparently do. That is, take the money I saved on a production boat and use it to hire Jon to bash to windward for 6 days, while I wait on a sunny for his arrival :)

Re: Production boats- justified bias?

Jon, from your posts, I get the sense that sailing is something to be endured, and not enjoyed. Do you see it as a challenge to be conquered or a way to relax?

Re: Feeling Foolish and Discouraged!

I would suggest you take a drive to Port Credit on the weekend. That's where most of the broker's offices are. Tell them your story. They will obviously see you as a serious buyer, since you...
