Re: Threadbare Gelcoat

Polyester resin, most likely what the hull is made from, will yellow if exposed to direct sunlight. Other than that, I don't know (perhaps someone else does?) of any structural issue that would...

Re: Pearson 30 Bilge Pump Recommendations?

Oh yes... the best time to swap out your bilge pump, and bilge pump switch, is while your current setup is still working. Think about that...

Re: Pearson 30 Bilge Pump Recommendations?

I have an Ultra Bilge Pumpswitch JR, and would not go back to the Rule float switch - ever.

The Ultra switches have a float that works in conjunction with a magnetic reed switch, so that they...

Re: Depth Gauge vs. Fishfinder

One of the advantages of a fish finder over a depth sounder is that you "see" the bottom contour. With a depth sounder, you only see a number.

My boat draws 5.7'... Before I swapped out the depth...

Re: Westerbeke Glow Plug

So the engine IS turning over. The issue is that it is not starting - or to use the venacular, "kicking."

With that info, I can tell you to not bother with the wrench on the crankshaft.

Re: What is the Buying Process?

Here is the process:

The seller decides that the potential for obtaining currency is greater than the value they are deriving from the boat, so they promote their intention to sell.
You decide...

Re: Pearson 34 - Talk me out of it

Pearson 34 of that vintage did not have a cored hull. The Saber is a nicer boat, but the P34 is very well built.

Watch for moisture in the hull near the lifeline gates. Also check that the bladder...

Re: Engine start shuts off chartplotter

Engaging the starter is pulling the voltage available to the instrument circuit below what is needed to keep the chartplotter on. I suspect that you may not have a fuse on your battery bank...

have a surveyor preform a compression test. (or if you already bought her, DIY).

if the engine looks good, it has probably been maintained very well. A well cared for diesel should last...

Re: Cal 31 Prop Shaft Diameter?

Save yourself a headache, and hedge your bet.

Before you go to the boat, stop by the local West Marine and buy two of each of the following:
3/4" Zinc Annode
7/8" Zinc Annode
1" Zinc Annode...

Hey Slayer,

I thought that you did this same trip in 2013. Did you not?

Do ANY of the gauges work? I am having trouble imagining that only the fuel gauge is protected by a fuse...

On my boat there is an ATM 20 fuse, which goes to the key switch.

One of my pet...

FWIW, I have not had a sail damaged on my boat, but did have one damaged while sailing with someone else on their boat. Beating our way through 6' swells on a 28' Sabre, we tore the jib, and repaired...

Re: New to the site but been in love with the Ocean for a long time.

Re: CS36 vs Morgan 38x vs Pearson 36-2/365 sloop

My opinion of the CS 36T vs the Pearson 36-2;

The Pearson is a roomier boat down below. The main cabin of the Pearson seems huge, and the separate aft cabin is nice, but the drop down salon table...

Re: To do it myself or not ?

What kind of boat?
